GRUMP!
Can you say, "SHOW AND TELL". And "without any meaningful dialog". Or " I just tested my new camera and this is what I found that I liked". Or " The little brown truck came and this is what I did not like about my new Canon". YOU KNOW, SOMETHING USEFUL. Enjoy.
Now what should we all do?

Enjoy your dinner, and then take the time to learn your camera. Now I wouldn't follow that advice. Id put the dinner on hold and start shooting with my new camera.
Have fun and take a lot of photos.
You sound like me when the Big Brown Truck brought my D750 a few weeks ago.... If the wife's not here to fix something to eat... I pop something into the nuker!
Enjoy! ... I know I am.

O BTW, it's gonna be beef stroganoff.
I'm for the beef stroganoff!!!!!
I want to gently say to you: Are you out of your mind! A brand new camera in your hands and you let something as mundane as eating get in the way of playing with it? Obviously you have a high level of loyalty to your family, hope they appreciate the sacrifice.
Cooking first sets a bad precedent.
Camera always comes first - you can read the manual while battery charges.

That depends on the amount of counter space available and whether or not the camera is "weather resistant."
