Who would take over besides the military and if so, who in the military would take dictator leadership.[/quote]

If we do survive and the military or especially a dictator comes out of the ashes, then that’s the main reason for the 2nd Amendment!

Hey man, relax. Instead of firing from the hip, why not first say something like "you were just trying to be humorous, right?"

I admit that I am not the brightest bulb in the UHH den but can any of you with your great wisdom tell me what the outcome would be if North Korea or some other nut case country managed to get a direct hit on the now bulging volcanic lake under Yellowstone?

I haven't got the time to worry about crap like this. Enjoy every day for tomorrow may never come.

I wonder how people with guns would fare against the U. S. Army.

And what would the results be in an all out nuclear war?

The end of the world as we know it. Last I heard the US and Russia have an arsenal of nukes the would destroy each country. The radiation fallout would kill all survivors.

No need for Yellowstone, one properly placed airborne nuke could take out most of the U.S. power grid for decades and we'd be back to the stone age.

The only way N. Korea could strike Yellowstone would be with an air- or ground-level burst over the park. If you look at surface bursts (and the air bursts over Japan) there was only surface damage, extensive, but still, confined to the surface. The build-up in Yellowstone, unlike at Mt. St. Helen's is far underground. If that builds to sufficient pressure to blow, Krakatoa would look like a firecracker. It is Nature's doing it's thing and not much humans can do to hasten/delay it.
If you really want to worry about something, there's climate control (above the ground and more likely to cause mass extinctions)... Human-caused or not, we should be looking at ways to stop/reverse that. After all, it's the only home we got!!!!

Writing as a volcanologist, I can tell you that volcanoes are mantle phenomena, heat comes from under the crust which is 50 km (30 mi) thick at Yellowstone. Volcanoes are not sensitive to surface forces, such as the explosions of a bombs, no matter how powerful they might be.

Vesuvius erupted in early 1944, ostensibly providing a beacon for the Germans to find Naples. I dimly remember stories from my youth that; a) the Germans wanted to bomb the crater hoping to set it off, or b) the Americans actually did bomb the crater hoping to stop the eruption. The 304th Bomb Group waited too long to fly their airplanes out of a field near Pompeii and lost most of them to damage from falling hot rocks. Some of this can be quickly checked in Wikipedia.

If the super volcano goes off it's curtains for the human race as we know it, no worries about survival. The fancy underground bunkers will not be able to hold out long enough. The event has happened before it is all in the scheme of recycling.

Nope, but smart enough to know that this countries problems come from the thieves in Washington. Again, too many can't read as I said my first reaction would be if it was't for the fact that the consequences may result in an even worse situation.

Problem is that people like you are the biggest problem because you are too ignorant to realize that this s your world too and it is attitudes like you that is the reason we are in this mess to begin with. And the saddest part is you are the ones that will be walking around wondering how any of this could have happened to begin with as you wonder down the blown up streets shaking your heads in bewilderment. The problem cannot get resolved until the idiot majority realizes this.
