I just received a bill from the Apple Store in the amount of $99.00 for a family membership.

There’s a link to cancel. Following the link, I’m asked to enter my Apple id & password - well, ok. After that I’m advised that I need to unlock my account for security reasons.

Hmmmmm - I’m asked to enter my first & last name, phone number, social sec number, DOB, and mailing address. I sure do smell a scam!

Does anyone KNOW - is this legit? How can I contact Apple to confirrm this?

Thanks in advance for any help

I know this is not related but good ol' me I had to post this. When we get phone call from a fake person who wants to sell us something. I say hold on a minute and put the phone down and walk away. Come back in a few minutes and they are gone.

I received a couple of such messages. I printed them out and took them to the Apple Store (fortunately there is one within a 10 minute drive from my house) and they told me that it was a complete scam but that many such messages have been going out. Watch out!

If you’d like to talk to a person at Apple, the best place to start is (you guessed it) on their website. Visit getsupport.apple.com, select Apple ID, choose Disabled Apple ID, and you can set up a call with an Apple employee, start an online chat session, or email Apple support, depending on the time of day. I used this service when I had a scam question....the support person was clear, first-rate pleasant, and available almost immediately.
