I just received a bill from the Apple Store in the amount of $99.00 for a family membership.

There’s a link to cancel. Following the link, I’m asked to enter my Apple id & password - well, ok. After that I’m advised that I need to unlock my account for security reasons.

Hmmmmm - I’m asked to enter my first & last name, phone number, social sec number, DOB, and mailing address. I sure do smell a scam!

Does anyone KNOW - is this legit? How can I contact Apple to confirrm this?

Thanks in advance for any help

You should be able to read the link to see where it is from. If it something like www.fredsdeli.com/appleform it's fake! Just copy and paste the ULR into a browser with hitting enter.

Contact your credit card company and see if you were charged. If so, dispute it and get your money back. They will probably issue you a new card with a new number.

Thanks. Should have posted the link - duh! It does look legit though.

On further review, the link says “order-biling@apple.com”. Billing IS misspelled. Which certainly adds to the smell.

My plan is:

NOT enter personal info

Contact an Apple store in the morning

Keep a close eye on cc billing & dispute any charges from them

Talk to the PD, too

Post further updates here

THANKS, everyone

No organization sends requests for SSN by email and it would be very foolish to ever send your information. This is a "phishing" email - just casting out the bait to see who bites. So don't bite. If this really was from Apple they would just tell you to log on to your account for important information.

I received the same bill and called Apple support. It's a scam to get your info so that the crook can then make purchases on your dime.

I get notifications about transactions with Apple and other online merchants all the time that tell me to enter critical information about my account. These are phishing scams. Never click on, or enter your account info, through one of these emails! You can got to your account yourself to check on and or dispute transactions.

I once copied a number of Social Security numbers from the SS Death Index for use with such schemes. I also make it a practice to lie, lie, lie.

Are you serious??? Apple may not make products I like. Apple may employ slave workers in other countries. Apple may sell overpriced and underpowered equipment. Apple may have a nefarious history of stealing ideas from independent inventors. But even Apple is not dumb enough to send this out.
