Bags packed, passports in order, ready for our big trip. Fly out of Brisbane at midnight, 4 hours to a 16 hour stopover in Fiji, then 10 hours to LA. 2 days there then on to New Orleans.
Only taking my smart phone, but will do my best to take some half decent photos, will post a few along the way on our month long adventure.
Happy days!

Enjoy your trip. Be aware of your surroundings. Depending on what areas you go to, both LA and New Orleans can be dangerous. Wish you could have taken more than a smartphone. New Orleans food is fantastic.

Thanks. We will be careful. Oh dear...my husband just walked in and said "1600 Aussies died overseas last year and 1400 of them were murdered." So yes...We will be sensible, especially in light of all the shocking things that have happened in the US and Mexico since we booked our trip a few months ago. There are no words for what happened in Las Vegas. I'm so sorry.

Enjoy your stay in New Orleans. You will be safe, just don't wander off by yourselves with no crowds around. I wish you were taking more than your phone for photos. There will be so much to see and photograph.

The numbers aren't quite that dire.

I will be taking a better camera, but I won't be taking my laptop to upload them. Just too bulky, as I found last time. My phone takes a quite good photo, and edits nicely.
So as we go, I won't be posting super quality pics, but will try to make them interesting and I'm hoping some of you might enjoy the journey.

New Orleans is one of the American musical mother lodes. You wouldn't go wrong seeing any of these folks but good music is all around.

Zachary Richard - Bonsoir, Bonsoir

Zachary Richard - Laisse le vent souffler - Let the storm wind blow.

Anders Osborne with Monk Boudreaux - Letters from Rome

Jon Cleary - History of New Orleans Piano - Cleary demonstrated the evolution of N.O. piano using Lawdy Miss Clawdy. He was in Bonny Rait's tour band playing the Tivoli, Bris.

[Thank you so much for taking your time Texcaster. I listened to them all and love them. To be able to be in Nola and be a part of the music is special and a privilege. We are not fans of Jazz, but love blues and I've been reading up on the different roots of the music. Thanks again.

Hi koalaroo, I am glad you are taking a better camera. Does this camera use Sandisc cards? If so, get a bunch of 8gb cards. You can record many pictures on it, and when you go to a new city, or state here, use a new card for each. That way you don't have to carry a laptop or any other device. All you have to do is label the sandisc where you were. When you get home download and re-use the sandisc or just store it as a backup. This is what I do and I haven't lost a disc yet.

There is a lot more to see in USA than NO. Make sure you go to some national parks.

I'm going to Bali soon, we don't need those sorts of warnings. I guess the worse that can befall us is being cooked by a volcano. But there's no guns or crazies there.
