Could you tell us the name of the head. Failing that a couple of pictures.
I'm sure that will allow members to offer suggestions.

When I use a Gimbal head I attach it to a lens that has an adjustable rail on it that allows me to balance the rig. If I attached it to the camera with a long lens I'd have the same problem. Depends on how large your lens is and if it has an attachment ring.

I use a Wimberly WH200 on a Gitzo GT3542XLS, usually with a D500 w/ vert. grip or a D750 w/grip or a D3s and 200-400 f.4 Absolutely no problems with balance... You don mention what gimbal head your using or Gitzo tripod model....

The gimbal head makes no difference. It's the mounting platform the OP is using, if he is using the standard collar supplied with the lens mounted directly to the head. What I use on my gimbal is a 6" Swiss-Arca platform mounted to the head thus giving me the balance point needed to prevent the weight of the lens tilting forward, and gives the correct balance.

You obviously do not know how to adjust your gimbal, might opt to get a manual for it!

If you are able to, check out You Tube for videos on setting up a camera/lens on a gimbal mount. There will probobly be a video for your gimbal.

Hence his question, Duh. How does your response help? He is reaching out for help from a location with limited resources.

I have limited knowledge of gimbal heads but I suspect you will need to try and mount the lens and camera so that its is balanced on the gymbal. Normally this is accomplished using a long Acura-Swis plate that allows you to move the lens and camera back and forth. If you are not able to use such a plate you might try adding additional weight to the camera. Use the tripod mount on the camera to attach the weight.Hope this helps. Send us some of your photos. Good luck.

If your lens does not have a mounting foot and you don't have a long mounting plate it will be next to impossible to achieve balance. The center of the lens diameter needs to be at the same level as the center of the vertical swing axis. The rest is simply achieving balance by sliding back and forth. Hope you can get there. Keep the finger on the shutter.

I use a gimbal head with a a Canon 1ds lll, it is a heavy camera. I have a 70-200 mm,and a 300 mm prime that are long. From Amazon, I bought 3 different length Swiss-Arca plates. They were not expensive. The balance problems, I had like you do now, are gone.

If you have a long quick release plate on the foot of your lens collar, or on the camera itself if you don't have a collar, then you can move the camera back and forth until it is balanced.
