I'm with you I shop at Kroger and thank god for the usual $1.00 per gallon discount I have been getting on 35 gallons each month.

...Canon can't make a lens autofocus with their own teleconverter when the aperture is smaller than 5.6, but the Tamron at f/6.3 will auto focus just fine. Go figure.

Later Canon bodies (5D3, 5D4, 6D2, 7D2, 1Dx, 1Dx, 77D, 80D etc.) will autofocus with a 100-400 f5.6 plus a 1.4x TC (f8).

True. My 7D2 will AF at f8 but only with the center AF point.

If it af at all then you are ahead of the game.

Keep shooting and use the centre point for pinpoint focus.

I purchased a Sony 5" external monitor to photograph the 2017 solar eclipse. It was a dream to use for low angle or high angle photos like a 74% SOLAR ECLIPSE.

What's the one photography purchase (besides a new camera) you've made within the past year (or 2) that you feel the best about?

For me, I'd have to say my best GAS purchase recently was the Canon 135 f2L I bought from a local guy about 6mos ago for $750.

I knew it was a great lens the moment I popped it onto my camera, but I really came to appreciate it at an indoor rodeo last weekend.

The lighting was extremely challenging and I don't think I'd have gotten anywhere near the kind of shots I did with any other lens in my arsenal. That F2 aperture really saved the day and the reach on my 7D2 was just about right (maybe even a tad too much for this venue). Now I can't wait to shoot some other event in the same venue.

My best GAS purchase was a mint Nikon Df with 600 clicks for ~ $1400. Still like this body for my first step into FF.

A Nikon DX 35mm f1.8 I purchased new for $197. Finally bought it even though I owned a 50mm f1.8. I own two more zoom lenses. I simply love these two inexpensive prime lenses. And won't part with them. Unless I go full frame?

The 50mm f/1.8 IS a full frame lens. It works perfectly in match-needle mode as a prime normal on my FE film camera and all-auto as a short telephoto on my D7100. If youngo full frame you've already got your first lens.

Fujifilm X-T2. I love it. Light and easy to carry all day long on vacation, hikes or street photography.

my best new equipment was, 3 L brackets and 3 wired remotes. as my right index finger is numb and not reliable when tripping the shutter button.

The Nikon 50mm 1.8G is a FX format lens. And affordable. About $217 presently. I've heard about the Yongnuo lenses, but I don't own any. My 35mm f1.8 is strictly DX. So, I do have an FX lens, as you stated. I use the 50mm f1.8 for outdoor summer kids soccer games from the sidelines with a DX camera.
