The one GAS purchase

What's the one photography purchase (besides a new camera) you've made within the past year (or 2) that you feel the best about?

For me, I'd have to say my best GAS purchase recently was the Canon 135 f2L I bought from a local guy about 6mos ago for $750.

I knew it was a great lens the moment I popped it onto my camera, but I really came to appreciate it at an indoor rodeo last weekend.

The lighting was extremely challenging and I don't think I'd have gotten anywhere near the kind of shots I did with any other lens in my arsenal. That F2 aperture really saved the day and the reach on my 7D2 was just about right (maybe even a tad too much for this venue). Now I can't wait to shoot some other event in the same venue.

Shutter release cable I found a few months ago at a flea market. It cost me $1. No more GAS now.

I bought a 135F2 when Canon had a refurbished sale for $799. That lens is crazy sharp at F2 on my Mark III and an absolute bokeh monster. The 135F2 has been around for 2 decades but IMO it's one of Canon's true gems Basil. It's my favorite piece of glass outdoors.

A Nikon DX 35mm f1.8 I purchased new for $197. Finally bought it even though I owned a 50mm f1.8. I own two more zoom lenses. I simply love these two inexpensive prime lenses. And won't part with them. Unless I go full frame?

What camera do you use with it, full frame or crop?

Think you're +2 - Haydon chimed in with 135/2 earlier

That's subjective, Basil has a likable personality and doesn't post 40 topics in 2 days. Basil also doesn't end up being contemptuous if your opinion differs.

1) The Tamron 45mm f/1.8 SP VC lens. The main reason is that it has vibration compensation. I use it for outdoor model photo shoots and street photography. Using a tripod is not practical for those shoots. The vibration compensation helps to get steady shots.

2) A beauty dish I purchased for studio photography.

A "used" Canon Powershot SX60HS. I wanted a decent easy to use camera that we (myself and my wife) could use to take photos of our two puppies Bert and Missy. I wanted something that I could set on full auto for the wife and easily change settings when I use it, something like a DSLR but not big and heavy like a DSLR. Something that I could leave laying around the house. Something that produces good quality images and video without costing much. I don't actually consider it a GAS purchase since it was something I was specifically looking for and it was not an impulse type purchase. The camera is in like new condition, works perfectly and I purchased it for close to $200 less than retail.

Sigma 150-600mmC. Didnt need it. Love it.
Hawaii surf, birds, squirells. Not super sharp but sharp enough. Makes me happy and the only lens I own that generates 0 income :-)
(Caveat: put it in my 70D with preset manual settings for lighting, with monopod and handed it to an enthusiast I met while at a destination wedding in Jamaica and said "stand here and shoot the groom as the bride comes down the aisle....and stay out of my aisle walk photos....he nailed it ! ...I didnt know he was responsible for large event coordination in Silicon Valley and then has been looking to hire me for his events since....it wasnt the lens per-se but it was "involved" :-)
