It probably is the best all around digital camera now. It has the newly designed sensor and the same incredible autofocus system as the D5 and D500. I'm interested in going to full frame (I currently have a D500) but will wait to see the D760. Rumors have it that it will have a 36 megapixel sensor. It should be considerably less money than the D850.
We're SOOO excited for you. now I HAVE to sell all of my equipt. and get one.

The reviews are starting to come in for the Nikon D850. To quote from Photographyblog: "Offering a compelling balance of size and speed, the Nikon D850 is the best all-round DSLR camera that we've ever had the pleasure of reviewing. This is really the one camera that can do it all, from landscapes to action, reportage to weddings, the D850 handles it all with aplomb." I anticipate the three usual responses: 1)we don't have enough information, 2)there's no such thing as the world's best camera, 3)mirrorless cameras rock. What other bodies would you nominate for world's best?

The BEST is always an allusive term. BEST for action, I think not, not enough FPS and the D5 focusing system is faster. BEST for weddings, I think not, does not have the low light ability of the D5. REPORTAGE, I think not, the D500 is faster and faster for sports. NO ONE CAMERA CAN EVER DO EVERYTHING THE BEST. No knocking the D850, but for ONE individual to crown it the BEST PRO CAMERA, I think not.

Does it really matter?
And isn't "best" subjective? What might be "best" for one person may not be "best" for another.
Even if there were a consensus "best" today, for how long would that consensus hold? Until the next model is released?

Good one. I'd like a D850 one day but happy with my D500 and a6000.

I agree. The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.
All the reviews on the D850 that I have read have been absolutely positive. Once it gets in the hands of those who bought it, we will get information on its performance. I don't recall so much interest in a camera since the introduction of the DX D500. I'm certain some uhh members will own both of these excellent cameras in the DX and FX formats. I'm wondering what the cost of the battery grip will be? It will be needed to get the 9fps. Qualifying it as a true sports camera.

This means that there are going to be flood of D810 and D800E bodies on the used market and along with Sony AR7II, etc., etc., etc. This is a boon for those of us that are looking to upgrade to the second or third best that still does it all; but at a quarter on the dollar. Of course glass follows.
There's going to be many cream puffs.
I have a 5DmkIV and based on specs, I would love to be a Nikon shooter with an 850. From a specs perspective, it seems to be what the media says, best all-around DSLR on the market.....interested in the real world feedback.
I prefer Canon for a whole bunch of reasons that dont show up in the specs....menu system, grip feel, overall reliability (perception, I know..no data to back that up), button layout, lenses...
When you get down to the specs on IQ, DR, shadow recovery etc...it starts to become a nerd discussion as the photo results from both cameras being viewed by someone who is opening the wallet will not be differentiated in 99% of the cases. (Video debate notwithstanding)
...
Now about that Sony A9....hmmmm

Because you own it and know how to use it hardly makes your camera, whatever it is, the "best camera in the world". That makes it the best camera in your personal world. Be real about the matter.
Or, make peace with the fact that you may not own the "best camera in the world". It only hurts for a little while...

Why wonder when all the prices are listed on the Nikon and retailer websites? But you need to do some more reading if you want 9FPS. It takes more than just the grip.

Sony owners of the a7r2 will most likely await the a7r3. I can't see giving up some Sony FE lenses, and starting all over with Nikon FX lenses. Just my opinion. And Sony already has the a9 mirrorless. It's still a wait and see for pro sports acceptability. That camera is $4500. Some say too much money for it.

Don't forget, you also need the D5 or D4s battery and adapter in the battery grip to get 9fps. The battery and charger will set you back north of $300.00, plus the cost of the battery grip for the D850 is around $400.00.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1357398-REG/nikon_mb_d18_multi_power_battery.htmlSo to get 9 fps it will cost you about $750.00 to $850.00.
The answer is always the same, the camera that you have mastered how to use that is in your hands. All dreaming is an illusion! Wow, this is getting spacey.
