I never bought a so called smartphone for myself. I bought several for my wife though. My company issued a smartphone to use. They have upgraded it many times from the 2 blackberry to Iphone 4s and now 6s. If I need an upgrade I can drop it. Don't tell my employer that I dropped it intentionally though OK?

"I switched to a LG Revere flip phone and don't feel that I'm missing anything. That's just me, to each his own"

I couldn't agree with you more.

I have a Samsung Flip Phone.
Don't need all the rest of the goodies.
I carry a small Nikon camera in my back pocket for quick 16 mp. pictures.
I carry my big Sony 42mp. for trips.
So far it's all I've needed.

Me, too. With my Galaxy S4 and TracFone service, I pay almost nothing. I don't have to see me talking to myself. That's what mirrors are for.

I may have to reflect upon that statement for a while!

My phone is a flip phone bought last year, only because the one I had died. The other stuff is on my Samsung Tab A2 10" tablet, where I can actually read it.

So the smartphone as expensive as it is you can't talk to God with it huh? Lousy phone for $1000.

Just goes to show you- God is no respecter of persons. He doesn’t text either. Although I guess you could say the Bible is the ultimate text.

Well, it may be the ultimate blunt instrument to bludgeon people with, or at least it is frequently used as such! Such is the nature of many religions.

Perhaps we should re-evaluate the merits of texting!

You're my kind of man. I've sold and used Apple products since 1986, the days of the Mac II that could support seven monitors (p.s. - started in computer business with DOS 2.2 on Leading Edge Model D) To me selling a Mac system vs. a PC was like selling a Mercedes against an Edsel.

My iPhone 6s takes better pictures than my Nikon 5100 and does 4k. We have a SONY BRAVIA 4K TV and the pictures are beautiful. I'm not in a rush to get the new X, but the new Apple Watch is the more important announcement in my estimation. I have Resound Hearing aids with Bluetooth. (I'm 78) I hear my phone calls thru my aids, but have to talk through my iPhone. The new cellular watch should change all that for me. Plus, all the new apps that will monitor my heart and my health make this a truly great evolving device.

I upgraded to a Sony AX 53 4k video camera and edit on my Macs and display on my Sony 4k TV and Mac laptops and iPads (my iPad mini with cellular beats a Garmin GPS hands down (made here in the KC area - Olathe, KS). Gorgeous color, steady video and stills and even frame grabs equal to many cameras (12Mp).

Will also get the 4k Apple TV in the future, already have a second Gen and a mini Mac for putting on presentations for folks.

Wanted to buy 100 shares of Apple stock in 1997 when I worked at Comp USA and it was at $15.00 but father-in-law said buy IBM AND GM. Would be worth $448,000.00 today. Did buy before second stock split, so still happy with Apple progress.

I read many of your comments on this site, your background is the best. Regard, Norm Runge, Independence, MO

Once you have an Apple Watch, you'll realize what an amazing computer it is, and now with it being it's own cellular phone, it will become an indispensable part of your life. Apple is on the upswing, doing a paradigm shift to an everyday item, now the largest selling watch in the world!

No need to tell them. You just did.

That was my impression too. I never thought I'd want an Apple watch (My cheap Timex has been keeping accurate time for four years now), but the heart monitoring might make me change my mind. Unfortunately, the cellular only works for the big telecom companies. I save money by using Consumer Cellular and I don't want to spend unnecessarily by going to Verizon, AT&T, et al. There's nothing wrong with my heart or my health, but I love health measuring gadgets.

Well, had a quick look at the info and specs and can not say that it tempts me. I am going to pass on this model X. I am a practical guy and all this funny stuff just turnes me off

This morning's press shows that Apple feels no responsibility for any iPhone over one year old. See Slashdot.com for 09/14/2017.

Well, they certainly support a lot more phones than that with their operating system upgrades. Most of their phones get five years of annual operating system upgrades, with quarterly updates in between. Do Android systems get upgraded that often?

That's important, because updates and upgrades fix security holes, add new features, improve old features, and enable old hardware to do things it could not do upon release!

My 3Gs lasted five years, with OS upgrades for four. My 4s was on the then-current system after four years, when I traded it for a 6s Plus. I now have a 7 Plus. I intend to keep it until it falls apart, or they move past its ability to run a new OS.

There are cell phone repair shops all over the place who can replace screens, power sockets, batteries, and other parts that fail. And iFixIt.com has parts, instructions, videos, etc. that allow users to do the same thing. They even have those "pentalobe" screwdrivers required to get into most iPhones.

The trade press are always a suspect lot. Many of them are paid by certain manufacturers to bash other manufacturers' gear. They're like the supermarket tabloids, loose with the headlines, and short of real facts.
