The Nikon rep was at Competitive Cameras in Dallas this morning. I was the first to handle it when he arrived and got to take a few quick shots. I really liked additional features that I worked with over my D750 and D7100 . It was very fast; I liked the dedicated BBF button and the joy stick to move the focus points. I think that the scrollable menu screens will also be an improvement with a little practice. My "horseback assessment" is that Nikon has a real winner here.

Is the BBF button an additional button or the same programmable button with a different label?

From what I've read about it, it sounds like it's going to be a spectacular camera with regard to image quality, ergonomics and a greatly enhanced feature set. The fps is fast enough that it may even serve as a sports and action camera in many situations. The 47 megapixel sensor should result in very high resolution images even if there is significant cropping.

Bill,

The dedicated BBF button is in the same place as the AE-L/AF-L button but it is already programmed for focusing. There are now two Fn buttons, one in the usual place on the lower right front and another on the lower left back panel. There is also a dedicated ISO button.

Thanks.

There's nothing really new except defaulting the button for BBF. THE D500 and probably the D5 already have the additional buttons.

Now we need pictures from some UHH members.

Don't know about D5 but the buttons on the D500 are exactly the same as the D850.

The joy stick to move the focus points is a great feature. I used it recently with my D500 at a studio photo shoot. I was able to keep a focus point on the model's face at all times. Having a dedicated ISO button directly behind the shutter button is a great design feature. It seems that Nikon is including that ISO button on more cameras now.

I think I hate you, David. I just got a call from Pro Photo Supply letting me know they got their shipment but not enough for all the pre-orders, and they will probably have mine end of October/first part of November.

Seriously, that's what I expected since the first production was sold out before I ordered. So I still have a couple more months to figure out how to pay for it.

What you guys need to keep track of is the battery grip. I've heard of no one receiving a grip, Pro Photo received none, and they don't know when they'll arrive. Normal Nikon style, it's way overpriced, but some of the D850 features will not work without it. D850 grip with D5 battery and cover = $575 +/-.

"Horseback assessment"? Would that be synonymous with virtually useless?
