As to the p900 , very small sensor , really to small I have a friend who used to shoot a p900 and I print his work for him and I also work on his images for printing . He likes to print large 24x36 , 18 x24 , is the smallest , and his work does sell well. I have even printed a 40 x60 from that little camera .But I am telling you now I worked my but off to do it . It takes at least cs5 or6 and topaz and genuine fractals to get them that large . And probanly an hour on each image . The reason I am telling you this is unless you have a friend like Myself or if you can do the work yourself you should grab that d500 with the 200 - 500 mm nikkor pay the price your life will be a lot easier . It is a wonderful camera and lens I have played with one . I shoot a d 7100 and a d810. My friend has moved up to a sony RX 10 iii the jury is still out on images from it . He is having a hard time with focus . It has a different learning curve and a diifferent menu system . Good luck stick with that 500 if you can afford it you will thank yourself with sales later.

The difference between 600m and 500m is huge. A larger sensor on the Cannon 10 III..combined with the lower price seems to make it the better choice unless there is a major issue I'm not aware of. I'll work with the increased size and weight with a tripod. Most of the landscapes I have on line were taken with a tripod. Thanks. Ross. https://rossivey.smugmug.com

It's not a Canon it's a sony rx10 iii. And it's not huge it's about half the size of a d500 sensor plus the rx10 is not a Interchangeble lens camera and the widest it can get for landscapes is no way near the wide angle that can be put on the d500 .The reason is the sensor , the smaller the sensor the less wide angle you have . The sensor on the sony is only 13.2 mm x8.8mm , the Nikon is 23.5 x 15.6 that's a big difference .I have worked the files on the rx10 and the d500 the Nikon is way better. You will be sacrificing image quality for convenience. A 24mm setting on the rx10 is not near the angle of view of a 24mm on the d500 . And the angle of view of a 24mm on the d500 is no way near the angle of view on say a d810 . The bigger the sensor the wider the view for any given 24mm lens.

Thanks for the correction. The only other camera I've owned is the Cannon AE 1 that I used for land and seascapes.

Don't get me wrong My friend sells a lot of his wildlife shots .His images are good sellers they just don't have the detail a larger sensor can produce. But again he is a good photographer and has good composition skills . The images sell themselfs . With the rx10 he doesn't blow as many highlights as he did with the p900. His landscapes sell well to.

Heh again , most of the people I print for sell gallery wrap canvas prints here in Florida . Smallest usually 18 x 24 , with 24 x 36 the average. Most art shows are canvas prints . That is most of what I print . I do 9x12 and 8x10 gallery wraps for my artists in the slow summer months so they are ready for the snow birds that come here in the cold months.Small prints fit in luggage going home. Most sell there wares in art galleries.

Good info. I priced it in my site. I did a canvas of my first professional grade photo. It is still on my wall today.
