Have been taking pics at the fun horse show. Got a couple pretty nice ones and would like to have them printed and to send to the rider. Using a d7200. What size can i print before the quality of rhe pic starts to go away. Havent done this before just keep all my pics for myself. I will have to go to walmart or whatever to get the prints. Thanks for any help

It depends on the quality of your camera's lens and the resolution in megapixels. I usually shoot my Canon Rebel T5 at 6 megapixels. Doing that allows me to make letter size prints with no visible pixels. Running the resolution up to 12 or 18 megapixels tends to create extremely large files, so I don't do that.

I may have to wing it then. I dont really know enough of what i am doing yet. Used an 18-140 lens. Have printed one little pic awhile back for one of the little girls and she was happy. Thanks for the reply

I recently printed an 11 X 14 from an image obtained by my Nikon the D3400 with my 50 mm f1.8 lens and cropped to about 1/3 of the image. It cost only $5s.86 at Walmart! It was sharp as a "tack" and showed no noise!

That sounds good. Will have to see how they are looking and then pick a size. The first one i promised they may want to frame so might try that size. Nat a spectacular shot just a young teenager doing a good jump on her horse

D7200 has a 24 MP image - If you shot at that size, then print pretty much to your heart's content. I would go to Adorama on line or another good lab to print above 11X14. But then, an 8X10 framed and matted is a good size in a kid's bedroom.

Thanks Thats what i was wondering about and wanted to know. Have started to try and print anything out yet and didnt know if that size would be decent or not

Yup and yup. I'm proud of a 12 X 18 print in my living room that was shot with a 14 MP D3100. I can look at that with my nose to the glass and see no pixelization.

I do my own printing, but definitely use a good lab. I tried WalMart but they cropped photos in unpredictable ways, cutting heads off and other strange stuff. I had a coupon for 100 free 4 X 6's from them and threw the coupon away.

Nice and too funny on the coupons. I think i will try walmart and if the shows are still going next year and the people want copies maybe i will get something to print myself. Thanks for the reply

If the image uses all - or most - of the frame, you could go to 20x30 with that easily. I made tons of 16x20prints from my 12MP D3 and those were gorgeous. Start Printing! That is where good photographs are supposed to go!!

Thanks. I dont think i want to go that big but will keep it in mind to maybe try later Had a good subject and just thought i did a decent job for a change. This a freebie to the teenage girls on their horses to show them they did a good job

I've made 40x60 images from a 6 mp D70S camera, and no one complained about noise, soft image, lack of quality. As long as you have at least 6 mp, you can pretty much make any size print you need. Bigger prints don't need 300 ppi because they are viewed at greater distances.

If you fill the frame in the viewfinder, you can get an excellent 24" x 16" print with no resizing. With careful resizing, 48" x 32" is fine, so long as it is viewed at five feet or more (where it has the same *apparent* resolution as the 24x16 viewed at 30").

If you can view the EXIF data on your photo, divide each ppi dimension by the resolution to get the physical size of the photo in inches. E.g 3600x6000 divided by 300ppi equates to 12"x20". You could theoretically print up to that size without distortion. A 50% crop would bring you down to a 6x10. At least this is how I look at it but I've been known to be wrong. Just ask my wife. 😜😜
