I like the second one the best. I understand Brent's concern, but I also believe that photography is still an art so it is the eye of the photographer as well as the gear that produces the final result.

I probably wont go aboard, but I do plan on photographing their departure Tuesday to see if I can backdrop them in front of the South Haven Light. Thank you for your comments.

That sounds like a good plan, I got photos of other tall ships with the West light in Cleveland's harbor.

I think the first two pictures have a bit too much red tint but are still nice shots.

Are these two vessels Registered or Documented as U.S ships, or foreign" If they are foreign vessels, they are flying the U.S. flag in the wrong place; a sailing vessel should have the US flag flying as a courtesy flag on the starboard (right) side main mast shroud (stay) and their country flag at the stern.

While the original Nina and Pinta were Spanish Flags, these replica ships are out of Delaware. However, they are tied up so they should be flying the ensign from the stern and a jack forward.

While these photos have been cooked to achieve the look, I have seen these colors near Lake Michigan over the years and every color from a pea soup green sky to a bright orange to red sky. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

OK, I didn't realize these two ships were U.S. vessels and since they have two masts, they should fly the Union Jack at the bow when on a mooring or tied along side, but you very seldom see that flag except on Government vessels. Single mast sailboats don't fly it at all and probably don't even have a jack staff. "Old Glory" is properly flown 2/3 of the way up to the peak of the aft sail, but I think most of us either run it up a back-stay or from a stern mounted flag staff.

This photo was shot during the July 4, 2012 celebration for which Maryland authorized the 15 star U.S. flag to be flown to honor the War of 1812; it was "the flag" before and after the war. A lot of that "forgotten war" took place here in the Chesapeake Bay Area. It not on a stern staff because it would interfere with the aft dock lines. The yellow Gadsden "Don't Tread on Me" flag just seemed appropriate for the occasion.

Actually, All issued US flags are authorized, so, the 13 star, 15 star, ... 48 star and 50 star are authorized ( there was never a 14 star nor a 49 star, and I haven't seen the proposed 57 star one that our previous President spoke of )

SS319: We get 2 ships that come into our harbor around May each year. They originate out of Washinton and go down the coast line visiting the harbors....
