Glad to see this post. Personally, I think the UHH community should makes its voice heard about posts like the one you're referring to. The poor fellow asked his fellow photographers for some ideas, and he gets told he's not mature enough to think for himself? And then the justification is it will stop someone else from embarrassing him or herself? Please. 1. The OP did not embarrass himself and is owed an apology, and (2.) I'm willing to take the risk of posting a question without Mr. L's sheltering wings.
Glad to see this post. Personally, I think the UHH... (show quote)

That's exactly what UHH is for, and it's been pointed out years ago that no question is beneath the dignity of this forum of being asked. Other questions have received the response of "google it." or use "search," but there's no reason to run people off and not allow others to answer their questions. If someone believes a question is a waste of their time they should go on to the next thread.

There seems to be a cadre of individuals on UHH whom I would say are infected with toxic shock syndrome. I won't go into the delicate details of how one develops that problem. Needless to say....they insist on making their pain our pain.

Of course the recommendation to think for oneself is only applicable to those who have the capacity to do so.

It is best to learn from the wisdom acquired by others; life isn't long enough to make every mistake your self.

I love this rehess. Don't know that I have ever heard that before, I have wrote it down and it is going on my wall in my office. Thanks for the wisdom.

What did you replace it with?

I already had purchased a D7100 which I love when I decided to sell the D5500. However, I had hung onto the D5500 for a year thinking I'd use it too, but I didn't hardly touch it again.

I sold it on Craigslist by taking the best pictures I could of the camera and all of the accessories, lenses, etc., and explaining everything is in the accompanying text. I also included the specs on the camera I had copied from the Nikon website. It took about a month before it sold.

The thing about the D7100 is that it will autofocus lenses that don't have a built-in focusing motor (full frame lenses), and I have several of those. It's an outstanding camera that I'll be using for years to come. I also have a D750 that I purchased after the D7100, and use both cameras. I take a lot of close ups, and the crop factor of the D7100 is a plus when taking them, although I use the D750 a lot for close ups too.

So much depends on your style of photography, on what kind of pictures you like to take. There are some outstanding bridge cameras out there too. I can only speak to what I have and what friends have. If you don't care about changing lenses, the Nikon Coolpix P610 takes outstanding shots. I've taken some great pictures of the moon with it. A friend of mine has a P900. He's taken pictures of a speck on the horizon that knock my socks off. And these two cameras also take excellent video. Then there's the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 that I love, another outstanding bridge camera that will take 4K video! And there are other outstanding brands of camera out there!

Good luck on deciding what you want to get. The choices are enough to make one's head spin!
