Jerry, this is just about perfect. Great exposure, expressions, and composition.

Thanks Jay ...

Here is what I was doing ....... shooting into my off-camera speed lights set to manual as well as having my on-camera set to ETTL. I was underexpose in this shot but close enough to pull it off with a little noise. There are no practice shots for this kind of shot ... it's one shot and you better get it, no double takes. Off-camera flash makes a picture like this so much more dramatic ...

I was shooting at: 24mm, 1/30, f/9.5, ISO-1250, off-camera set manual at about 1/4 power (should check my setting as one light is hotter than the other), on-camera set to '0' ETTL.

I was under about 1.5 stops, would of been nice to be slightly under, maybe about a half stop. Could of gone to f/8 and been fine and pushed my ISO up a bit. I'm critiquing my own for everyone's benefit ;)

The mandatory (married, I guess) woman with the cellphone camera. I would have cropped her but certainly would not want to clip the light rays (PS content aware?).

Great work.

First thanks for the kind words. I thought about cropping her out but I was trying to keep the picture balanced meaning the bride in the middle. If I would've cropped out the cell phone girl I would've had to crop something on the other side.

Thanks Jerry, I appreciate the detailed settings. For low light situations like that I also like to go 1250 to 2000 ISO and mix in maybe 40% flash. I never really measured it but that is the mix I like. You always achieve a nice starburst effect from your background flash. How wide can you go on your aperture before you start losing that? 1/30 is a slower shutter than I like to go to avoid motion blur, but it looks like you pulled it off. Yes, slightly under is preferred, but isn't it great how today's full frame sensors can recover!

Thanks Jay ....

Most of the night I was shooting at 1/60, would of preferred slightly faster. It really is a balancing act to get it right between natural ambient and flash. I learned more on this shoot which should carry over to the next wedding ...... new week :)

Here is an interesting snap ....... the couple was leaving and had gotten into the limo. 50mm prime at 1/10, f/3.5, 5000 ISO. A little noisy but as they say ... got the shot
