I am new toi LR and am having a not so slight problem. I can produce an pleasing image on the screen in the DEVELOP mode, but when I open it in Library, the image colors are very different. The two questions are is there a solution to this dilemma? Or...is there a way to export the image to JPEG from Develop?
Thanks,
Bob

You might post an image to see if we can help Bob. I don't know of a way to export from the develop module but that is not saying it can't be done, I just don't know how to do it.

In the Develop Module, right click and choose Export - it's the same as when in the Library.

The image you see in the Library is not the same as the one displayed in Develop module, but usually is not very far apart in appearance. When you export from the Library the finished jpeg should be the same as if you exported from Develop.

There's no reason not to upgrade to 6.12. Go to Help > Updates...

This is well-documented and has always been the case.

The solution is to use color management of your screen and printer (or download the print lab's profile) and use softproofing to keep things as consistent as possible in your workflow.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/color-management.html#How%20Lightroom%20manages%20color

A quote from link.

"Lightroom uses Adobe RGB:

for previews in the Library, Map, Book, Slideshow, Print, and Web modules
when printing in Draft mode
in exported PDF slideshows and uploaded web galleries
when you send a book to Blurb.com (If you export books as PDF or JPEG from the Book module, however, you can choose sRGB or a different color profile.)
for photos uploaded to Facebook and other photo-sharing sites using the Publish Services panel

In the Develop module, by default Lightroom displays previews using the ProPhoto RGB color space. ProPhoto RGB contains all of the colors that digital cameras can capture, making it an excellent choice for editing images.

In the Develop module, you can also use the Soft Proofing panel to preview how color looks under various color-managed printing conditions."

The image you see in Library mode and the image you see in Develop mode actually use different color formulas. The image you see in Develop should be what the final image will look like when exported or printed. Set your software preferences to ProPhoto color space in all of your applications when possible. When you export, either from Develop or Library, you are exporting the same image so it does not matter which Module you export from.

From the LR manual, ,which is always a great reference when in doubt:

"Lightroom uses Adobe RGB:
•for previews in the Library, Map, Book, Slideshow, Print, and Web modules
•when printing in Draft mode
•in exported PDF slideshows and uploaded web galleries
•when you send a book to Blurb.com (If you export books as PDF or JPEG from the Book module, however, you can choose sRGB or a different color profile.)
•for photos uploaded to Facebook and other photo-sharing sites using the Publish Services panel

In the Develop module, by default Lightroom displays previews using the ProPhoto RGB color space. ProPhoto RGB contains all of the colors that digital cameras can capture, making it an excellent choice for editing images. I did some testing and discovered that I could export from Develop. Only problem is that it would export every pic in the file. Is there a way to export only a single pic from Develop?

Also..
I did some exporting and found that the pics exported from Library and Develop are very different. I did notice, however, that the small preview window in the UL corner of Develop, which has different coloemetry from the main Develop pic closely matches the Library export.
Thanks,

Bob

1. In the Develop Module, look at the film strip beneath the main display, you should see one image highlighted in white (border). You may also see other images also highlighted but with a darker shade of white, and more images with simple grey borders. All the images highlighted, either in bright white or "dark" white have been selected. Press Control + D to deselect all images, then choose the ONE image you want from the film strip by clicking on it. This will be displayed on the screen and can be exported by right clicking and choosing "Export".

2 The little window UL corner of the Develop Module is called the Navigator. It has a couple of functions, the first being it shows where in the image you are when looking at the screen. If the thin white border surrounds the Navigator, it is indicating the zoom to "Fit" to screen. The second function is to show presets without actually sending them to the image. With an image open in Develop and the Presets list open, hover your cursor over one of the presets (without clicking), the Navigator will change its rendering according to the preset hovered over. If you click on a preset, it will be applied to the image and reflected when you invoke the export procedure.

I suspect you had more than one image selected, and also tried out one or some of the presets, exported and wondered what is happening. Have a look at some tutorials - http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-156310-1.html#2641183 which may clarify some of the mysteries.

Library pics are simply jpg files for viewing and are in a different color profile than the profile you see in the Develop module. I have no idea what you are doing but the file export using the export function will only export the actual file, no matter what module you are exporting from and you can export from Library or Develop and I believe other modules as well. You only have one actual file stored, not counting if you did virtual copies in this discussion. Click on the file or files you want to export and hold down Shift-Command (or Control) E and the export box will pop up where you can choose how you want to export.

I'm not familiar with LR 6.9, but in LRCC if you press CRTL-E it takes you to PS for editing. If you are in Develop module and want to go to Export, you need to press CTRL-Shift-E. Just mentioned this in case other LRCC users are following this thread.

If using Windows, to export an image directly from the Develop module, right-click on the image and a menu will open. One of the options you'll see is "export". Hover over that and you'll be given multiple export options... Click on "export" in that second menu and the Export dialog box opens (same as when you are exporting from the Library module). If you're using the Film Strip and have multiple images highlighted, you can export all of them as a batch.

I don't know why images would appear different in Library, than they do in Develop. That's not the way they appear in LR when I use it.
