'Senior Pass' to the National Parks

The National Park Service runs on a shoe-string budget. They are always cash poor. Their budget was cut in half a couple of years ago on top of that. I've been retired and using a Golden Age/Senior pass for eleven years and always feel like I'm getting away with something when I use it. Frankly, it's about time they raised the price of the pass. If we seniors want the parks to be around for our grandchildren we have to stop looking for a bargain and be willing to support this incredible treasure.

For everyone out there who is 62 or older and want a "National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass" you better hurry up and get one. The price is going up from $10 to $80 this August 28th.
If those not familiar with the card, it is a 'lifetime pass' for all the National Parks. (It includes you and all those in your vehicle.) Check out the following website.

I look at it as a nice benefit that probably has little or no effect on the budget. For those that feel otherwise, they can refuse to use them and pay or make donations. Many have no idea what a small fixed income can mean to some seniors and this may be a little something extra.

For those who would not be able to enjoy the parks without the card, please do. My comment was meant for those of us, myself included, who can afford to at least pay $80 one time for free admission and half price camping for the rest of our lives. No disrespect was meant.

Just got mine on line. Thanks for spreading the word on a great deal. The National Park Service is one of the few things the federal government got right.

I have had my pass for years and I use it regularly to go to the Everglades National Park. I do not know why the significant increase in price although it is still a bargain for those who frequent national parks.
Except for the salaries everything is up nowadays.

in the mail, they receive it and process it before the 28th deadline.

5 times thru Ding Darling in Fla, 2 times on the blue ridge parkway, 6 or more visits to a nature preserve in NJ, 3 visits to a park in Delaware, 1 visit to a park in Md, I'd say I got a lot more than my moneys worth. I'm thinking of buying a second one and putting it someplace safe. Just in case I happen to lose mine.

I have used mine more times than I can count at Ding Darling and numerous other fee areas, but I was not aware that there were any fee areas on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
