Hi Folks, well I've been away for awhile. Haven't had much of anything interesting to post. But, my luck has changed. I ran across this old General Store way out in the country about 50 miles south of Nashville. Looks like it's been vacant for some time. The sign above say's "Cheatum Springs General Store", I wonder if they did "Cheat-um", maybe that why they went out of business. I also noticed a horseshoe over the door. This is an old tradition that's supposed to bring good luck. Hope you enjoy my lastest find. Since the lighting was awful. Very bright and sunny, I tried my hand at processing this as an HDR to bring out the drama and detail a bit more.

What a delightful place. In the town where I started my life we had a similar store and gas station in upstate NY. It even had a cigar store Indian out front as I recall. Many of the towns people would go in to talk, settle the world problems and then go about their business. I believe it too is closed these days. It was stores just like this that kept many towns going.

Great pictures by the way. I like what you did with them.

Dennis

Thanks kpmac, I like HDR on some images, and it seems to work with this one.

Delightful story Dennis, thanks for telling it. I grew up in a small town. All the men would gather at the gas station early morning and shoot the breeze while sipping coffee before heading off to work or where ever. I know, because my Grandpa took me along with him to work during the summer when school was out and we stopped in. I loved it because I usually got a bottle of pop and small bag of "Toms" peanuts. Those were wonderful memories back in the day.

Nice work on these, James. The HDR works great, just enough to bring the store out of the shadows. Great work.

Google coordinates are: 35.579241, -86.211882. There is a Confederate Cemetery in the area also, but word is...that is about to be bulldozed under.

Yeah Randy, it was so bright out in full sunshine, I really had a hard time with normal processing. Gave up and decided to try HDR. It's a cool old place, however...tons of ant hills around it, so I kept my distance.
