Jederick, I had hunted there a number of years ago. Like you found Silverton a very interesting place. I don't remember the buildings being in that good of shape. They have done a nice job in restoring these old buildings. Your photographs are a wonderful reminder of why I like that place so much even though I was there in late fall. I remember it being cold and I also remember feeling the altitude as a person who lives basically at sea level it was quite apparent. I wondered if the town has underground utilities or if your removed the wires as the photographs are wonderful without those distracting overhead wires.

Thanks for looking and taking the time to respond, Bob...and, I hear you about the altitude. Like you, I've deer and elk hunted all through this area for many years and know the bite of their winters. I use to be able to run all around these mountains, now, going on 76, I'm getting very short of breath in these altitudes.
Don't know about the extent of underground utilities but I did very little PP on these photos and did not remove or clone out anything...not even much in the way of cropping.

We lived in Durango for 15 years and made many trips to Ouray. We first thought on retiring in Ouray but settled on Durango. Silverton sure improved over the time that we were in that area. Nice place. Not so great in the Winter.
Yes, Silverton has really grown up since we first visited this area in 1973. Took our kids on the Durango/Silverton narrow gauge railroad train on that trip and it was a hoot. We just walked up and bought tickets, no lines back then. And, there were less than a dozen occupied bldgs., mostly gift shops and a couple of cafes.
What a wonderful set. Looks like you found some great old buildings...thanks for sharing!
Interesting set, jederick and nicely photographed... I enjoyed the tour and love the beautiful sky!!

Nice series. It looks like these old buildings are well kept. Apparently some are still in use.

Thanks Tikva and yes many are still in use and more are being rehabbed too. Silverton has become a very popular destination for people, especially from Texas and Oklahoma, looking for heat relief in the beautiful high country.
