Hi, nupshaw, and welcome to the Hog! I can share your feelings about big, heavy cameras! I just have Nikon Coolpix and I love it! That squirrel shot is really good! Nice and sharp...wish I could get one like that! :) I think you'll enjoy it here!

Welcome to UHH, Nancy! Lots to learn here. I had a Minolta SRT-101 at one point and was able to make good images with it. Your squirrel is excellent. Ask you questions and one of many here will answer. Don't get frustrated if the answers conflict. Sometimes you have to ask the question a couple of different ways to get the info you need. Enjoy your visits here they are worth the time.

Hi, I'm Nancy. I'm 65 yo and retired for 3 yrs. I've done photography for decades off and on as time and inclination allowed, but mostly off in my later years, though I have had a few bouts of intensity when I had subjects to inspire me.

Because of my bad back and a light case of fibromyalgia, I gave up heavy equipment years ago, though I have not yet parted with my old Minolta 101. Anyway, I tried a Canon Rebel XT for awhile but couldn't get into it, so I sold it. Recently I purchased a Sony DSC HX400V, and I find I like it, but need to learn better how to use a digital camera. I'm still programmed for manual setting, and it's been so long since I did much more than point and shoot that I have trouble controlling the exposure requirements.

So any help in translating old manual film control to the digital arena is welcome.

I'm going to try to attach a pic I took this past spring at a park beside the Shenandoah River. We'll see how that goes. :)
