If the package was sent via USPS, I would get one of their investigators involved. I would also immediately contact my credit card and have the charge challenged. That's why I don't purchase through Amazon!

Did you contact VISA? They will intercede on your behalf and refund your money, no questions asked.

If I'm reading it right you knew the lens sells for $1500-1600. I'm curious why you jumped on this one for $1500? I feel bad for you but your story is probably like a lot of crime victims. Only a small percentage ever speak up.

It was probably delivered to the wrong address. The shipment was tracked by scanners at several points, so the packager was definitely shipped and tracked up to the point of delivery to ???. I don't think this is a scam.

I find this a little confusing. I have bought gear from Amazon for years.

That said this is a used item and it was shipped and accepted by who?

Be aggressive in challenging the delivery authentication. That is where

the responsibility is. I don't think that amazon is responsible if it was

shipped by an owner. ebay has insurances on some transactions covering

these kind of issues. Sorry you lost the lens. Pursue delivery USPS.

This is amazing. The terms interstate commerce and mail fraud seem to pop in my head. Those are federal crimes.
Have you talked to an attorney?

Turn this over to your DA. And write a letter to Amazon and let them know you will no longer purchase anything from again also point out that eBay has better fraud protection then Amazon fraud dept.
If I were you I would put an article in the newspaper explaining your case making it a public record.

I have had issues from time to time with deliveries! I bought a new lens from Amazon, I got a message saying arrived at front door! Went to front door, back door, side door, cellar door no package! I called several times about it Amazon, Post Office all agree it was delivered! Well it was, it was delivered to the other side of Town with a street who's name was close to my street! You would think the PO would know that! Sorry for your missing lens, maybe it's not Amazon's fault! The PO can be pretty stupid at times! After all the are a Government Agency!

It took a lot of time and effort to organize and post this original story. I appreciate your effort in doing that. I don't if you'll ever get your money back but I hope you do and if you continue to report this and LEO shows up at the apt in Minnesota (not likely its a good address) then it will be apparent that a crime has been committed. At this point they don't believe it has and Amazon has much of the initial contact handled "off shore" by people who really don't care if you were scammed. Good luck and thanks for posting this. Its helpful to me.

The OP was not the victim of the scam, he just posted a link to the victim story.
Reading the replies you all seem to think the OP was the victim.

You need to read the whole story. The box that delivered to the wrong address and did not contain a lens . Amazon says their warranty only covers up to the point where the package is signed for by somebody.
To be honest I think there is something fishy about the writers' side of the story too.

I am amazed at where stuff you buy from Amazon comes from! Just bought 2 new Gimbal mount, Prime Two Day shipment, 5 days go by nothing arrives, call Amazon, they said it was shipped! I did a USPS tracking! It came from Tonga, a little Island in the South Pacific with a population of less than 65,000 people, no manufacturing of any kind! I whaled on Amazon, about Prime Two day service! Anyway on 6th day Sunday afternoon there's a box at my back door! My two Gimbal had arrive on Sunday no less! PO in my hick town never works on Sunday, and hardly works on weekdays, but I am now happy I have my Gimbal, in good shape, and work perfect! All this? Yup you know they came from China! You know, that slow boat they always talk about!
