Hi photodoc16,
That's pretty funny. It looks like I may have had a "fat finger" error.
I hope you liked the Black Eyes Susan Pic. It's definitely one of my favorites.

Excellent ! The black background makes the yellow flower really stand out !
GaryK,
I did like them. I am always interested in how folks create their black backgrounds. Since you saw these by the side of the road I assume you didn't drop a black backdrop behind them. You could have taken them and done so at home I suppose. I have used the 'replace background' mode in Elements and I have also used a flash to darken the background although sometimes I still have to clone in some of the black areas. Sometimes just the contrast slider will do the job. And your weapon of choice is........?
Thanks,

Photodoc16, I am always interested finding ways to develop a pleasing background. It's my opinion the background is critical to making a good photograph whether it's a macro or anything else. I, at times, use tools in the photo editor fix the background or make a black or white background. This year I set-up a black background camera range in the basement with inexpensive lighting to illuminate only the subject. Other than that, there is no other lights. I simply pick the flowers, and then go to my basement cave with a cold beer and try to be creative. I still prefer natural backgrounds providing it doesn't get in the way or over power the subject.
I'm not sure this addressed your question, but if not, let me know. Just be aware, I have absolutely no formal training; just my remaining hair is gray.

GaryK,
I hear ya. I think DSLR'S are the tools of the boomers and other old MoFo's most of which are probably self taught. When we go it will be just mirrorless and camera phones.
Congrats on your home studio. Those of us in NYC apartments don't have the space so we must rely either on in the field techniques or good software.

Photodoc16,
My basement photo range can't really be described as a studio. It's just more convenient because I can block out most of the stray light. The background is some inexpensive black fabric, a small table, several cheep lamps, some plastic water bottles, and a little container of "Play-doh". I've taken many pictures at the kitchen table, but if I want a really black background, it is better to shoot a night. I just work with what I have available. It's all part of the fun.

Tom, I'm pleased you like the photo. I learn something every day. I didn't know the Black Eyed Susan was the state flower of Maryland.
Thank you.

The winner of the Preakness horse race (#2 in the triple crown series) is adorned in a blanket of Black Eyed Susans. It's beautiful.

Tom, I believe I learn something new every day. I had no idea the winner of the Preakness receives Black Eyes Susan's. I am really please that you like my Black Eyed Susan's.
Oh by the way, I actually live on Preakness Ave.

WOW! What a co-winky dink!
Beautiful shot, Gary! We have them blooming all over the place and often mixed in with the Queen Anne's Lace.

Hi sailersmom,
It sounds like you have a very beautiful garden. I have a small garden in the front of my home with only enough room for a few plants. The Black Eyes Susan's just started to bloom a week or two ago.
I'm glad you liked the pics.
