I purchased a used dslr from Henry's with, if memory serves, around 87,000 actuation's and after 5 weeks (4 week warranty for used) it just quit cold. I returned it and they gave me another to replace it and this puppy only had 18,000 actuation's and is still running like a pro after 3 years. Sometimes you're the windshield... sometimes you're the bug.

One thing I know for sure is that H----'s camera store will never see my face again after 10 years and 4 cameras , a bunch of lens including 5 primes, a shitload of filters, extra batteries, tripods, camera bags,etc.etc.etc.

That's a shame. I reluctantly bought rust-though insurance for a new car. The salesman said the work would be done by the dealer. over ten years later, I had a rust spot, so I went to the dealer, "Oh, you call the number on your policy." i called and got a recording saying the number had been disconnected. Salesmen lie.

It would help if you told us the name of the store. "H----'s" looks like Henry's. With over 76,000 members on UHH, they may want to avoid bad publicity.

Can't trust anyone nowadays. Bad statement. You have to choose who you know you can trust. First of all, do not trust any advertising on TV from anyone you have never purchased from before. I purchase nothing from any TV or advertising and promotions I get on the internet. Pick your friends, not those who think they know everything.

Thank you Tusketwedge for the sad reminder that we need to ask for all the fine details from the salesperson and read the long contracts for any drop and spill or extended warranty. I'm sorry for your bad experience.

I'm a klutz too so it makes it a tough choice.

That is why so many hogs recommend B&H or Adorama and suggest camera insurance as a simple add on to your homeowners or renters insurance.

Not sure what all you went through when buying the insurance, but the Law requires you receive a policy (or the offer of a printed policy). Call the story and get them to email you a copy of your policy. You are in a better position to negotiate when you have it in writing.

When a person wants to sell you a extended warranty, got out of the store fast.

This is the reason why the slogan "buyer beware" came about. In the future it is very important to read the fine line. It would have said that there was a 20% deductible. It certainly is a lesson learned. The extended warranties for lenses are generally a waste of money. They usually come with high deductibles. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience.

I agree completely with this testimonial for State Farm. My Sony A900, with 24-70mm Zeiss lens, was stolen from my home. State Farm made good my $5000+ loss. They have my business forever!!!!

Henry's lists "20% off at-fault repairs" in big bold text. The op didn't read it. He has no reason to complain. He needs to take responsibility for his mistake.

I have an allstate home owners policy, it covers theft no matter where the equipment is at the time it is stolen. I have no rider. But, my agent has a list of all of my equipment and the serial number of each piece. In addition I have sales receipts or invoices for every piece of equipment on the list. I also have on hard drive and thumb drive a photo of each piece and a close up of the serial number. My coverage also covers loss in a fire or storm. I do not have drop insurance. I have never dropped a piece of equipment, my wife fell with my new F2 around her neck and I made the big mistake of checking on the camera first, NEVER DID THAT AGAIN, from now on it's, ARE YOU ALL RIGHT DEAR.

"20% off at fault repairs" is very misleading. 20% off what? It should read that there is a "20% deductible for all at fault repairs".

Bought a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 from a reputable camera chain store here in Canada. During the purchase the salesman asked if I would like to buy the extra insurance. Asked what it entailed and he said that would cover accidents and such which Tamron does not cover. Declined the offer and he mentioned I had 15 days to purchase same from time of lens date purchase. A few days later on a shot with a friend we were talking and he asked about my purchase and if I had bought ins. When I said I had declined, he said being the klutz that I am ,maybe I should rethink. The next day I called the store and purchased same.
Fast forward a couple of months and while taking the camera of the tripod, there she went. Camera was fine but can't say the same of the lens. When I took it to the store the conversation was like this, We will send the lens for repair. They will contact you with the price for the repairs MINUS 20 PERCENT which we will pay. HUH?????
[ME] What are you talking about?[ HIM] Did you not read the contract? [ME] What contract, you never sent me one,it was all done by phone and paid it with a credit card @#!&HEAD

Walked out and the wife stayed behind and gave them permission to IT send out. Today got a phone call and was told it would cost x number to replace the part of the busted barrel. Once I said OK she quickly cut the conversation short with her heavy accented english.
Looked at the call display and it was not a Tamron repair center and the name when I tried to search it would come up empty and there was no call back number on my phone. My personal gut feeling I think my lens is somewheres in India or Pakistan being repaired in somebody's garage.
One thing I know for sure is that H----'s camera store will never see my face again after 10 years and 4 cameras , a bunch of lens including 5 primes, a shitload of filters, extra batteries, tripods, camera bags,etc.etc.etc.
Bought a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 from a reputable camer... (show quote)

Next time get a Squaretrade warranty. Covers everything. Very reputable company with a 5 day repair or replacement turnaround. >Alan

Very misleading? What else could it possibly mean?
