You are absolutely correct! I finally put up a tower and a beam, but I worked all over the world (including Australia long path) with a multi element inverted V at 50' hanging from a tree limb. 3 sets of Elements made from THHN wire with a common feed point. Cut for 80/75, 40 & 20M plus the 40 loads up nicely on 15. 4 popular bands for well less than $50 (including the 1:1 current balun), not very visible, no radials, simple to build, no tuner required, and omnidirectional.

Takes me back, my late father, K1BLJ, was a ham for almost 70 years. I still have the first rig he made by hand when he was in his early teens. He moved a few times and one of the major considerations of a potential home was the availability of space for placement of his antenna. A huge 6 element beast that cranked up to 50 feet.

Glad the hobby is still alive and well. Sadly, I never picked up the hobby myself.

Almost as expensive

Top transceivers cost as much as top cameras, so probably just as expensive. Especially if you are putting up top class contesting and DXing station and antennas.

[quote= Let"s see some shots of other stations.73, DE K4CKB[/quote]

Here is my setup. With it and its predecessors I got WAC, WAS, and DXCC (222 mixed, 171 CW, 190 phone, 118 on 40, 173 on 20, 164 on 15, and 157 on 10). Much of this with a trapped dipole in my attic and my R 7000 Vertical. As you can see I've been relegated to the cellar. Got my Novice ticket in 1964, followed by my Technician in '65. my General in '78, followed immediately by my Advanced in '78, and my Extra in 1981 when you still had to take a 20 wpm code test to get it. I don't like CW, but use it for getting rare DX and also in contests.
73 to all and 88 to all the lovely ladies out there.

Nice shack. How about a quick review of the R7000?
I've been looking at a Zero Five (brand) vertical that covers everything down to 40 and requires no radials or guying.

The R 7000 has raised radials so I have it mounted so that the radials are about 8 or nine feet above ground. It does not have to be guard. It covers 40 through 10 meters including the WARC bands. Cushcraft also makes the R8 which includes 80 meters if my memory is correct.
