My wife and I recently took several little runs up into the near by mountains to see how the huckleberries are coming along. Everything so green including most of the huckleberries, but there are lots of wildflowers along every mountain road we explored.

I am pleased you like the little flower pics. I would love to take a drive in the mountain every day. It only takes 15 to 20 minutes to get away from everyone.

Great set, like the last shot (challenging lighting)!

Hi PixelStan77,
Thank you for your comment. I'm now 73, but as a teen and a young adult, I spent a lot of time in this area fishing, hunting, camping and even gold panning.

Hi speters,
The lighting was a little tricky. I popped on a polarizing filter to reduce some of the glare, but still retain some of the highlights. As you know, there is nothing better than Idaho's crystal clear water.
Thank you for your comment.

Gary, these are both gorgeous and refreshing shots. I would love to have a nearby mountain getaway! Your flowers are well exposed, sharp, and nicely composed - a pleasure to view.

Carol, I'm glad you liked the little wild flowers. The pictures were all taken in the National Forest which begins at the eastern edge of town and extends east to the Montana State Line and covers about 1800 SQ miles with well over 1000 miles of roads. Monday my wife and I drove about 60 miles up, down and around the mountains. There were wild flowers along the side of every road. We would have gone another 100 miles, but ran out of time. There are other National Forests to north and many more larger to the south. A lot of places to explore and plenty of photo opportunities.

Thank you for your comments.

Hi bigwolf40,
Thank you for your kind comment. This is where I spent a great deal of my misguided youth; fishing, hunting and camping with friends. It's nice to spend a little time in the back country. I a few weeks I will be back to pick some Huckleberries.

Such beauty you captured, Gary! What kind of flower is that in your first shot?

Hi sailorsmom,
I'm pleased you liked the wild flowers. The first photo is called "Bear Grass", and has snowy white blooms. It grows at higher elevations and thrives in shady areas. There were a lot of them along side the road at about 4500 feet. Bear grass stands about 3 to 4 feet tall, and the flowering portion is 12 to 15 inches. At 5000 to 6000 feet, they would probably be a bit bigger. My wife was hopping to see a bear or two, but nothing again. Oh well, it just fun to be up in the mountains.
Thank you for your kind comments.
