Yes - I base Nikons problems on:

Just as I thought, yet another person who just likes to pass on information without a shred of truth. You would do well in Washington DC. Now those folks know how to pass on rumors. Please, next time you post, please check your facts before you spread untruths about a good company.

If you think Nikon is in good financial condition, you are blind, or intellectually limited.
Do some research. The news is all over.

If you want something "new" try mirrorless--micro four thirds, (MFT) to which Nikon and Canon have been oblivious. The MFT represents the future of photography. If you plan to have it for a long time, you will find that the DSLR gets heavier and bulkier as the years pass--which may limit your enthusiasm to carry it and its lenses wherever you might go.
When you're at the camera store trying out yesterday's cameras--the Canon and Nikon, try a Panasonic/Lumix, Fuji, Sony, Olympus or Leica. I love my Nikon but my MFT is something special. One more point: no camera is perfect for everything. Yet.
Enjoy!

Yes - I BASE NIKONS PROBLEMS ON :

1. Personal Knowledge
2. Inside Information (yes - I have worked with the company)
3. Many news reports - including an extensive discussion on here
4. The internet is not bad - so yes - the internet

Nikons financial problems are not rumors.
Nikons technology problems are not rumors. Just check the reviews on Ken Rockwell. He has more negative things to say than me !

I think you like to try to sound intelligent based upon your concluding remark, which clearly, you think is articulate - but I think its just some foolish talk from someone who is actually clueless.
hahahahahahahahahha br HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA br br... (show quote)

The Japanese newspapers are not reporting anything, same with the wall street journal. And I have been a sales rep for Nikon and still have friends in the business. Nothing, just smoke on the internet, they are going no where. You are just spreading rumors that have NO FACT. You have listing nothing, just like the wall street journal and Japanese press, NOTHING.

Yes - exactly - the sales reps for Nikon are going to confirm to all their customers and users that the company is having financial problems.
Just do a search in this site - there are at least 100 postings about Nikon and their financial woes.
Please dont ask me to do your research.
If you prefer to believe what you want to believe - go ahead. I dont need to spend time convincing you.

Like most companies in transition Nikon is moving out of trouble. Unlike you I will post on this subject. Yes, Nikon was in trouble, but they are coming out of it unlike those that say Nikon is done. They are just starting to turn the corner but they will be back. Unlike what you have posted.

If you loved Canon, stay with Canon. Or may I suggest taking a look at the Olympus Line. Olympus is the best!

I wonder how the tone of the debate between the Canon and Nikon loyalists will change if one of the rumors in the photoraphy press turns out to be true: that Sony is eyeing the financially challenged Nikon as a buy out target. ????

I have owned all three of the top brands and never had a problem with any of them! My suggestion, go to your local camera store and put them in your hands and see what feels the best to you! The only reason I would recommend one over the other would be if you had a lens or two that is of a particular brand that you would like to keep. Good luck!

Ready to move up to a dslr. Previously had Canon and loved it but old 35mm. Need something new. Want to capture wildlife and flowers and be able to blow up images as basis for creating art quilts. 80D reviews seem better than 77D. D5600 or D7500. Which would be best? Plan on keeping this camera for a long time so willing to pay more to get the best. Appreciate any feedback.

I have owned two Canon 70D's, a Canon 7D mark II and now own a Nikon D500 and an Olympus EM1 mark II. Had I not chosen the EM1 mark II to compliment my D500, I would have chosen a Nikon D7200. I feel it is far better value than the new D7500, even though the D7500 does feature some of the D500 tech. The problem for me is the price of the D7500. The D7200 is half the price and I can buy a brand new D500 for just two hundred pounds more than a D7500. Having owned 7 Canon cameras in the past, I now feel Nikon has the edge for still photography.

I volunteer at Corkscrew Swamp in Florida, a photographers paradise. While not scientific, I see more DSLR photoghaphers using Canon, many using the gray colored "L" lens. Nikon second. But overall, most visitors now use cell phone cameras.
