I am thinking of upgrading from a Nikon D5100 to either a D7100 or D7200. I have read the specs for both and cannot see a big difference, am I missing something? Any thoughts, suggestions or current 7100 or 7200 owner testimonial would be greatly appreciated.

I have both the D500 and the D7200. Not sure witch I like the best.
They both work well in different situations.
I don't do a lot of flash photos, but having a built in flash is good. They
both work well with an older AF lens I have. My upgrade was form a D100
to the D7200. No regrets.
I would say go with the 7200.
Get the Canon T3I and be set for life! Canon has some great refurbs! Get a Sigma 18-250 and call it a life! Even though a ton of $$$$ geta Canon 10-18 and take it out on payments so you won't tie up sooooo much $$$!

I have the D7100....does everything I need it to do. Great camera body. The D7200 is basically a software/slight feature upgrade, and if what is updated/graded seems better to you, get the D7200. I would if the price was not a factor and I didn't already have the D7100.
Google the difference between the two, see what you think!

The biggest difference is the newer processor in the D7200 giving you a larger and faster buffer, plus it adds WI-Fi.
And forget the Canon Rebel suggestion, you already have a better camera than that one.

That wasn't the OP's question!

I don't approve either, but, in all honesty, I see the same type of answers in Canon threads from Nikon users :)

I understand, but it should not be. When a person asks questions about a product, we should not try to change his/her selection. On the other hand, an open question should bar no suggestions.
Nor should we use this as an excuse to hijack the thread (and this from one of the guiltiest). Thanks for your input.
I bought the 7100 over the 7200 as there was little difference between them other than price which I used the savings towards better glass. No regrets here. As far as WiFi I don't need it and post process everything.
The D3xxx and D5xxx series Nikons have a pentamirror viewfinder. If you go up to a D7xxx series or higher Nikon you get a pentaprism viewfinder. The glass prism inside gives a larger, slightly brighter view. You will also get the U1 and U2 settings on the mode dial. You can store frequently used settings and recall them in a second. I'm not sure if your D5100 has a virtual horizon but that's a nice feature to have. I would go with the D7200 or take a look at the new D7500.
A lot depends on the type of photography you do. If its birds and fast focus is required, then the D500 tops the DX selection from Nikon. However, since your question is specific to the 7xxx series, the new D7500 is faster at acquiring focus as well as fps and buffering than the 7100 or 7200. The 7200 is better ergonomically than the 7100 because of the possibility of dedicating the movie button to ISO setting and it also shoots a slightly higher rate of fps than the 7100 with slightly better buffering. The view finder in the 7200 is better than on the 7100. The 7100 scores out a little better (just a little, but noticeably) IQ than the 7200.
Finally, if I were to have to make the choice between the 71 and 72, I would take the 72 because they are so similar otherwise, but the ISO button convenience, because I shoot my camera settings (other than the AF) in full manual mode, is a great convenience for me.
Hope this helps.
I have both the D7100 and the D7200, the D7200 has a slightly higher advantage in ISO performance over the D7100 along with what others have said about the D7200. I like the my D7200 and will sell my D7100 when the successor to the D810 is available.
