Another caveat that should be examined is "Do both have some type of image stabilization?" Generally I'd choose one with IS/OS/VR. Choose your poison.

We are talking about Sony here so no lens will have VR. Let's try to be up on the subject we are commenting on pretty please?

Wrong. Sony 70-200 f/4 and f/2.8 both have VR, but this has nothing to do with the OP's question which is whether 70mm on one lens is the same as 70mm on the other. The answer is no difference in the focal length. 70mm is 70mm.

What mount are you talking about? The Sony cameras have IBIS

It's called 'Optical SteadyShot' which works in conjunction with IBIS amplifying stabilization.

Due to breathing, the 24-70 is probably only 70 when focused to infinity, otherwise less. Most zooms IQ falls off at the longest focal length.
