I researched extensively. Was leary of cheap ones' connections. Decided I wanted a sling but one in which the camera slides ON the strap, not the whole strap moving, since I usually have a hydration backpack on too. Decided on the Imorden Falcon F-2. Has an under-arm strap to stabilize it. And a secondary safety tether. Shoulder pad is comfortable. Can hang left or right. Special plate attaches to 1/4" mount on camera but can still attach to tripod. Sling 'Trigger' attachment locks securely. Amazon $40 with hand grip included. List price $70. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M7YS7D4/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
I may get a Peak Design neck strap for when I do not want camera on my hip. Easy on/off attachment system. Stabilize with Anwenk Camera strap belt chest stabilizer with elastic and release clip system. Can use with Imorden sling too.

Utility sling strap from OpTech USA. NOTHING BETTER, at any price, and it's under $30.

the black rapid also allows you to choose whether or not you want the camera to slide due to set of clamps on the strap

I know exactly what you mean. i have neck problems which is also worsened by the strap. Many years ago I came across a harness --BIOCAM harness by OP/TECH USA and I love it. They make 2 different types--one is heavy elastic which has a "give" and this one I like very much since I have access to the camera and shoot without any problems. The only drawback is that I have to support the camera to prevent it from "swinging up and down". To avoid this I have made a strap out of wide elastic and strap it around the camera and my waist on long walks/hike The other is made of "twill like" material which has no give to it at all. I got mine through Amazon about 2-3 years ago. i hope you enjoy using this as much as I have. Another source is Cotton carrier which is like a vest. Google and you will get many more suggestions. Best of luck

I was never really into camera straps, I found them a awkward when I wanted to remove them from the
camera body to take macro shots and putting the strap back on the camera time consuming, that is
until I saw this video:

I can highly recommend them.

Leicaflex, you o'll seadog! You have helped me greatly in using my cameras eaiser! I clicked on your Peaked Design - Camera Straps. I was impressed
with this new series of camera straps that I have not known, I bought two from B&H this morning, before the store opened, and they shipped today
HOW'S THAT!

I always look for better and easier ways to do things. Years ago 1989, I had a stroke and have paralysis on my left side, can't use my left hand - I'm
left handed! I do not cry about anything, I do everything, but, at a slower pace. Can't run, but I still have my magic eye!

Was a LEICA user in my 35mm film days, three LEICA R bodies and 12 lenses, BIG, BIG, Bucks! THANK YOU, I am very impressed . . . AP!

Presently I shot with a D800 which is a heavy camera. I am finding the regular neck strap to be quite tiring regardless of the lens attached. I am planning on a multi-hour hike to Gulf Hagas which is nearby and am seriously considering a sling-type strap that allows the camera to ride on my hip instead of on my chest. I know a lot of members like O-P. Any advice? How do these straps connect to the camera? Thanks.

Take a look at OP/TECH.
