Looking to get a new tele converter to use on one of my numerous Nikon camera and lens.

Suggestions will be welcome and tele does not have to be a nikon piece.

Thanks for any input. I am retired (73) and so have to be penny wise and pound foolish.

Which one of your numerous camera and lens combos do you want to extend? Some are good, some are bad, some can't be done.

I have the Nikon TC-14E (1.4) and would recommend it. It was not inexpensive. Be aware that Nikon cameras will decrease the F-stop to focus and then put it back to your setting. You should keep a minimum available f8 for autofocus. Of course you can always manually focus.

Check out this Nikon site first. There is a link to lens compatibility that will answer a lot of your questions.

Nikon TC's will not work with that lens. Kenko 1.4X and 2X will work but image quality will be a crap shoot.

The 18-300mm lens cannot be used with any Nikon teleconverter. Third party units may work with it.

I put my money into lenses. Teleconverters will never give you the IQ you desire.

Converters, especially the 1.4x work great with fast, prime lenses. The series III converters are the latest versions as compared to the older II converters. People using the 300mm f4 PF lens say it is equally sharp when using the 1.4x III converter.

What people? You say the people using the 300 f4 PF say it is equally sharp using the 1.4x III converter. Who are these people? Are they rating this system some where? Is there documentation? Or is your comment about people just more here say or what you have heard without seeing resulting images.

Relax, Bill. Ernie mentions the 300mm f:4 PF and the TC-14Eiii, both Nikon products. His post, IMHO, is irrelevant to the OP, who wants to use a TC on an 18-300 lens, which ain't gonna happen with Nikon's TC's.
