Hello I am definitely an amateur but wanted to know others opinion of the D70s. Bought this camera new but never used much. Now I am getting back into it.

You have a nice setup. While the D70 maybe not the latest and greatest it is a very, very good camera. I shoot Canon's but there is a D70 in the collection that I use when on the road. The picture quality is excellent, more than enough for my uses. Shoot it, enjoy it and post the pictures here so we can also enjoy your work.

If it still works well go out and shoot with it. It's getting a little old tech wise but can still produce good pictures printed up to about 11X13 without getting into to much pixilation. Learn on this one and move up to a more recent one later.

I've printed, displayed, shown and sold images from galleries that were 40x60 from my D70S. I have one left which is my project camera - I intend to convert it to infrared when I get some time.

Compared to today's cameras, it is slow, a bit clunky, has a small rear preview screen, has about half the dynamic range of new cameras, and has a practical limit of about 400 ISO. It uses a CCD which "looks" better that the ubiquitous CMOS sensor, and when it gets noisy it looks a lot like film grain. Use it until it breaks, then replace it with something newer. I don't think Nikon has repair parts for it, and it wouldn't be worth the cost even if they did.

D70s - it's one of Nikons' Greats. Everything that Gene51 said about it is true, but he did not mention the advantages. The D70s is light, compare with most modern DSLR's, the D70s is simply fresh air. Maximum card size is 8GB - but you can shoot 400 images - all raw - onto that one card and all on the one battery (assuming you do not use overmuch the built in flash). Commander mode is there for external flash units, infrared remote control etc. Whats not to like?

I bought six D70s cameras and handed them out to my class - everyone on the same starting blocks, and some of the images were brilliant.

I have one left and use it quite often, together with my D200 and D300s. (all now vintage in camera years), but the D70s is my go to if the conditions are rough - repairs not required, simply replace very cheaply from Ebay.

I have one in very good condition I bought at garage sale. I am glad I stick with film and didn't buy it when it was new.

Use it. There is nothing wrong with it. I still use one. Had it converted to IR.

The D70s is a very nice camera, one step up from the D70. Nikon doesn't add letters for small upgrades anymore. I have a D70 that I had converted to infrared. Below are 138,000 articles about using your camera. Have fun!

While an older camera that has been replaced several times by newer models (D7000, D7100, up through the newly released D7500), it is still a really good camera. I gave my wife my D70s as a means of allowing her to use my lenses and stay compatible with my gear. She takes wonderful shots (I would never tell her that many of her images are as good or better than mine, when in reality, she probably has a better eye for shots than I do). She has a Nikkor 18-70mm zoom and a 70-300mm zoom that are her main lenses. But, she uses my 10-24mm Tamron, Nikkor 50mm f/1.4, and my 80-400mm at times. She has begun to use my D7100 for some portrait shots because it is a 31mp camera vs her 6mb camera and because my D7100 uses SD cards which are easier, larger capacity and faster than the 4gb compact flash card the D70s uses. The D70s is a really good starting point that allows you to be able to use your accessories on follow on Nikon cameras. You've got a really good foundation to build on.

I had a D70 for years and made money shooting weddings with it. The pictures were great and the colors marvelous..., it has a CCD sensor! You will not go wrong if you use it.

I gave mine to my oldest son along with a couple of lenses. Loved the 1/500th sync speed & several other features though.

Great camera. Had a lot of fun and made some money doing weddings and selling picture with it. My wife's D70 is now with our son, and he is still doing weddings with it along with our retired D200. I don't know of a Nikon D series camera that is not good in the right hands. Six megs is all you need for most prints you will ever print. Just don't use Walmart to do the printing, they down size the resolution even farther when they print.

Shot a lot of industrial equipment for documentation purposes with my D70S. Still have it, still use it, still love it.
