Fire Department Practice Burn

There was a practice burn last weekend of a donated house that our Department went to along with 4 other Departments. With a practice burn, wooden pallets are placed in different rooms of the house, doused with diesel fuel, set on fire, and then teams of firefighters go in and practice putting the fire out. When all the practice is done, hay bales are brought in, and they and the floors and walls are doused with accelerant and the house let to burn to the ground with the practice being to keep the burn from getting out of control and into the neighborhood. And a good time was had by all.

Really nice series Auntie! You captured the action nicely. I especially liked the image of the big flame in the doorway.

Thank you. Used my Sony A200 with my Minolta 70-300 lens. Radiant heat from these fires is quite intense.

Thanks Pat. Still able to put on my gear and stay out of the way to get the shots.

Give your son a "well done" for me. The job of a fireman is a very dangerous job and I have the highest respect for any person who chooses that profession. Thanks for looking in and commenting Sylvias and tell your son to be careful.

We have had several people who purchased old ramshackle houses and chose to let the Fire Department use them as a training tool and then had what remained of them carted away. It turns out that paying to have the house "prepped" - taking out the appliances, asbestos, etc. before the burning is cheaper than paying to have the house demolished and carted away. It is a win-win situation for everyone. Thanks for looking and I am glad you enjoyed them.
