Thanks so much. I really like the extra info that you gave about the video fluid head. I bought a good basic head, but already can see this is too limiting. I have to turn the whole monopod to follow a bird, and that causes issues. My Manfro monopod has clips on it but that becomes an issue since I seem to be adjusting all the time. Would be great if I stood in one place all the time! Guess I should have done some more research, but this was my first step in trying to stabilize my camera after 20+ years of trying to find a tree to balance against. Age catches up, sadly. I am a woman, so not sure how the stabilizer would work, but glad to see this in action.
Thank you so much for the extra effort you put into this reply. You have given me lots of new things to think about.
P.S. I looked on line to see how short this monopod compresses...We travel and already am aware that I have issues with the compressed length of my monopod. Luckily, my husband's birding scope tripod is the same compressed length, but have to borrow a larger suitcase to fit them both in.
Thanks again.

That is what makes the one hand adjustable #685 so nice - no clips ! - but it does not collapse very small.

The worst thing about the fluid head is it is a little heavy compared to the simple mechanical tilt ones and a little more expensive.

Yes...but if it works then it is worth the cost. This will likely last me for many years... Now that I have used a monopod for 6 months in many situations, I have more idea what I really need. That is one reason I like Hedgehog...thought most of the stuff is way over my head, ability, or interest...there are always things that interest and motivate me.
Thanks again.

Here is a monopod that I MAKE that I am field testing now. You will notice there are no clip adjusters as height adjustment is at the top. The smooth main tube is fiberglass with an aluminum inner extension post. It extends and retracts fast and easy - and it is easy to carry around - but it only collapses to 50 inches - BUT, it goes 8 feet high when used with a wired or wireless remote trigger. It is shown with an Arca Swiss style tilt head adapted to a Manfro QR system. I am considering making a version that collapses to 40 inches.

I have another version that starts at 6 feet and extends to 12 feet that I call an "aerialpod" ! - or poor man's drone.

If interested in any of this please PM me ......

Here is a pretty interesting monopod. I haven't seen or heard of this one before. Check out the video of it in action.
