I would like to purchase a monopod. I got one free with one of my zoom lens last year. I'm not real steady holding my camera and this helps "somewhat." I've noticed there are monopods out that have 3 feet which I think would even help me more. The one I got free is just a straight piece. Does anybody have a suggestion which one would be a good one to purchase? I don't always like setting up a tripod for a quick shot. I was just curious if anyone else uses a monopod. Thanks in advance for any input.

I have the same issue. I got a couple suggestions here on UHH, I am leaning towards a Sirui monopod and a tilt head. Not cheap but apparently well built.

Google universal monopod feet and buy a set for the monopod you already have.

Just be aware you cannot use a monopod-with-feet to hold your camera while you walk away to adjust something.
I mean maybe you can, but if your camera and lens have any value it isn't wise. A monopod-with-feet IS useful to steady your camera (and old geezers like us) a bit more than a standard monopod while you are taking that prize-winning shot. Just don't trust it to stand up by itself under all circumstances.

The free one I got is a real cheap-o. The bottom of it doesn't screw off believe it or not. What a great suggestion though. Thanks.

I'll recommend the Sirui 426S as well. I have on and love it. The feet give you that extra stability that you won't get with just the monopod without getting in the way like a tripod. You can pick them up overseas if you don't mind waiting for it a little. This is where I got mine: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sirui-P-426S-Carbon-Fiber-Photo-Video-Monopod-10kg-22lb-Max-Load-w-Mini-Tripod-/201839351295?hash=item2efe9015ff:g:6oIAAOSw4CFYuC~G

No, I would never use it to hold my camera like a tripod. I just can't tuck my elbows into my body and press my camera against my face without causing some movement. When one gets older, the hands aren't as steady like they used to be, even with a small pancake lens I have issues. I don't always want to use a fast shutter speed either to prevent movement.

Thanks for the reminder though.

Thanks. I don't want to sound cheap, but that's a little more than I want to spend. I'm just a photography enthusiast, nothing more.

I use the Manfro 685b one hand adjustable monopod and also now using the Manfro 361 monopod stabilizer - http://www.ebay.com/itm/391693621399?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I can recommend both highly ...the stabilizer does not necessarily have to be used against your shoulder - any part of your main torso can help !

Thanks. I'll do some research about this kind of setup.

I use the Sirui monopod and tilt head. Couldn't do better regardless of the cost.

The one for $159 sounds doable. Thanks for suggesting.

I have an old cheap Miida monopod from the early 70's that has that feature but I seldom use it. It is one of 3 that I own (4 if you want to count the one that detaches from one of my tripods). Best to step on the feet when using it as opposed to free standing.
