The sort of protection container and camera that suits depends on your kayaking. What suits for 'flat' water likely will not suit for rapids and rough water. Have you run across a magic gizmo that locks tripod legs unto the hull. Do you use a cockpit skirt - if so that might suffice in flat water.

I use a Fuji XP camera when I'm out in my kayak. It's waterproof, shock proof and dust proof. And has a 5X optical zoom. I also have a float strap on it.

I kayak in a 17 foot Perception Eclipse composite touring boat. I shoot most often on a lake and with a dslr (D70s, D200 and a D7100) and use a watertight deck bag just in front of the cockpit. The Eclipse is a very stable platform for photography.

I am looking for a good quality camera that I can use when kayaking, I have the Nikon D500 and the Sony A7R2, I like a nice quality photo, I can not see myself putting an expense camera in a bag! Or spending 1k on a housing, any thoughts on the GoPro5 or a water proof point &shoot, I will be on the intercoastal water ways and in the mangrove s in Florida. Thanks for your thoughts.

A good camera with water proofing and good pixels. Personally I would make sure it had a way to attach a lanyard to the camera so if it happened to fall into the water by mistake it would be able to be retrieved.

Thank you all. I plan on shooting mainly in the mangroves shallow water that is protected. I bought the Eddyline Caribbean that's very stable boat, thank you again for your photography information πŸΎπŸΎπŸ‘£
