I did too, but never kept the pictures. I just handed the unprocessed rolls to a relative and left. I wish
I could have a couple prints of the shotgun wedding, particularly one of the the fathers (dressed like Jed Clampet) poking the groom with his shotgun while the six to seven month pregnant bride stood by crying!
I retired back in 93 from photographing weddings. One I done the father of the bride showed up with a white shotgun. He said it was a formal wedding so he chose a white gun.
Wow that comment ruffled some feathers you go-to realize I am laughing to think that some of you can't grasp the jist of the comment . I have done weddings , cheerleader completion and ECT 29 years still don't consider myself a pro just a guy who can sling a camera the right direction
Would you believe... should up at a church members wedding did not know she had contracted someone to take pictures, D3s tripod, strobe, and aug lights, all TTL conected, Had taken pictures of church and guess that had arived, she and the contracted person, (w/D 3300 only), came approched me and ask me to leave as she was the one that was going to get paid to take pictures...so be it packed my stuff up, and left. Now two months later she has called and wanted to know if I had gotten a picture of a person that is now decease. Said sure and printed her an 8X10, and burned CD of all 200 pics I taken, she raved how good, offered to pay, declined, eplained I am now 75, retired, take pictures as hobby now. (don't throw a gift to the wind)

After all the pages and pages of UHH responses generated by the folks asking for advice in shooting their friends/grandkids/nieces/nephews wedding, I am wondering if anybody has done the shoot they told us about and have some pictures to share. I seem to recall 2 being scheduled for a May date so, maybe there are some stories to be told and congratulations to be delivered ??
Hopefully everyone was not scared off by the responses ! I think its time for show-and-tell ...
The real question is; after the bride and groom show their photos, when is the next time they actually look at them? Are they in a draw with the hundreds of other photos that seemed at the time to be important, along with those bird pictures they paid so much for that much needed lens? Funny how pictures just get forgotten about.
UpSome of the worst "canned" shots come from so called "pro" wedding photographers. Nothing more repulsive to me than forced candid shots that seem to be the norm today.
It's the in between shots or family group shots will make a better wedding photographer. Skill and not getting trapped into the text book bull s#it is a tough path.
So in the end a skilled person who didn't learn the typical routine that is offered by the so called pro can actually capture a better story of the event in my opinion.
It would be great to see some of the photos of the skilled vs the self proclaimed posted...
I've never done wedding photos as a pro before because the shooting schedule for such events is way too demanding. Instead, I prefer to rove around and shoot pro bono, for family and friends. Attached are 2 shots I did for my niece's wedding (Nikon D810, NIKKOR 24-70mm).

Hi. I did notice that there is no detail in the blacks. did you notice that? It does look like a nice snap shot, but a pro would never allow an image like this. Maybe im being too critical, and with a bit of editing you could adjust the white balance as well as the blacks and shadows. Today professional photography is not valued as much as it was years ago. Today with iphones and cheap SLR's snap shots are the norm. More is spent on the DJ and flowers than photos. The demand for my services in the wedding industry has diminished, and my full time liviing is about doing picture day in youth sports clubs. Sad to say, Craigs list and uncles have taken over the weddings.
Thanks for the advice, canon Lee.

I must be one of those people because I asked dozens of questions to prepare for shooting engagement pictures of my granddaughter. I acquired lots of equipment (probably more than I needed), practiced on the family, and when the time came, I got some good shots and my granddaughter was very pleased. She said I saved her $1000 !!
I even edited them in Lightroom, moved to Photoshop & created a collection of my favorites; then printed on 13x19 Luster paper, framed it and gave it to the happy couple at their wedding shower.
I also created their "Save the Date" postcards using a few of the pictures.
I did tell her not to ask me to shoot the wedding, although I will have a camera with me, probably one of the Sony's for casual pictures; not the ones the Professional will be getting.
This is all in thanks to the many helpful responses I got from the Hog!
