After all the pages and pages of UHH responses generated by the folks asking for advice in shooting their friends/grandkids/nieces/nephews wedding, I am wondering if anybody has done the shoot they told us about and have some pictures to share. I seem to recall 2 being scheduled for a May date so, maybe there are some stories to be told and congratulations to be delivered ??

Hopefully everyone was not scared off by the responses ! I think its time for show-and-tell ...

They are all probably cowering in a corner, trying to recover from the reality shock of what they got themselves into.
Either that or they are hiding from the friends and family of the happy couple because nobody cared for the result.

Its not that bad. Sure you make mistakes but every time you do another it improves. You have to get your feet wet when going swimming.

Besides, if they were willing to pay for seasoned professionals you won't be asked.

Last wedding I did for my brother in law when he got married was in 2007. They hired a cheap pro. He charged something like $600 for the days and deliver the low res JPEG (1800x1200). He sells prints but the bride and groom didn't buy any. In fact they use mine for their album and they didn't show anyone the pics from the pro.

I cheated....I said no to taking the photos of my step daughter's wedding and then went ahead and took some anyways. Yes, I kept out of the professionals way and instead concentrated on the guests that may or may not have been in the official shooting list. Lots of crowd shots, young children dressed up, Old codgers that may never see the next wedding etc. As candid shots I didn't really need to know who the people were as at some point relatives and friends will be subjected to 'the wedding photo's' and can 'fill in the gaps' or ask for copies.
As 'Father' of the bride I had fun too.

I did too, but never kept the pictures. I just handed the unprocessed rolls to a relative and left. I wish
I could have a couple prints of the shotgun wedding, particularly one of the the fathers (dressed like Jed Clampet) poking the groom with his shotgun while the six to seven month pregnant bride stood by crying!

If your a confident photographer and comfortable around your family and friends your more apt to do a better job then any so called pro wedding photographer who only takes the normal wedding shots

Earn't my living from photography, but weddings, I would rather chew glass, I subside into the background, and shoot candid shots of the general mealy. Sort of captive street photography. I have never had the temperament to be a wedding photographer.

Took all the photos of our daughters wedding and all were pleased with the results. Yes, there are moments you wish you could have gotten that perfect shot, but you just have to move on. Yes, not everyone cooperates as you would like, but again, you have to move on. Glad I took on the responsibility and ended up producing 2 great albums for both families to enjoy.
As you can see, different poses can produce great results.

I strongly disagree. I shot weddings for over 35 years. I had a standard list of must have's, these I went over with the bride on one of two pre wedding meetings. I then had her add any and all groupings she wanted. In addition I had the bride assign me a close relative from both the bride and grooms family, my two stringers were assigned to work with each of them and shot 100's of candid's during the reception. At the close of the reception I checked with the bride at least twice to see if she wanted any thing else. My brides hired a pro, they got a pro. I take exception to your comment on SO CALLED PRO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS TAKING ONLY NORMAL WEDDING SHOTS, there is no such thing I can assure you, every wedding was as individual as a finger print.
