I have tried doing what you said and the little red dot follows and refocuses.

Okay, think I learned something. Focus is hard!
#1 all auto many points in focus
#2 all auto changed to spot focus
#3 Aperture priority wide open good focus
#4 Aperture priority shut way down ISO so high focus sucked
I am not grasping this lesson at all. I followed the steps (I think) but other than noticing a lot of spots on my lens with a long shutter speed, I'm not seeing much of a difference.
This first group all AV Auto WB and meter mode Pattern
All focus by camera f 4.5 1/10ss ISO100
Spot focus on B&B same settings
Spot focus B&B f/8 1/3ss ISO 100
Spot focus on B&B f/29 4sec ISO100
I did the second group in AV in Average meter mode all ISO 100
f/29 4 sec spot on B&B
f/8 1/3 sec spot focus on B&B
f4.5 1/10 sec Spot focus on B&B
f/4.5 1/10sec camera picks all focus
I think you might want to have a background and foreground that is not so neutral where you can see the focus really come into play
Thank you! I will try again

If you look at the wording on the sign, you'll notice that it appears sharper in some over others. One key to nailing your focus is know what you are looking for when it comes to sharp focus.
Here is a sample post I did that shows were the focus fell on various shots.

Thanks MWAC for all your effort. Excellent presentation. I will save and review and review, etc.

sportyman140, are you keeping the shutter button pressed half way down while you recompose? That's what I have to do on my camera to fix the focus while I recompose
great lesson MWAC first few attempts were not quite right so Will try again
Wow that was a little tough to get and comprehend but I think I got it. How soon for the next Lesson?
Thanks MWAC. Your lessons are always most informative and I enjoy them very much. I just reset my camera to single point focus and the difference was remarkable. Even these old eyes were able to see a big difference.
Hope your Husband's transfer is approved soon.
Merci
