Scrap. Minimum repair at Nikon is about $500.00
Oh come on now.
Maybe you can show us a quote from Nikon backing up that statement?

Right. That seems way too low.

I just broke my 18-55 Nikon kit lens. No insurance, should I repair, replace, scrap or upgrade?
Blessed, that I was not injured.
If you decide you want a 18-55 lens, buy one refurbished @ Cameta Camera,@ B&H photo, @ Adorama, etc. A reputable Photography store.

Back when I was a Canon user, I found lots of used-like-new lenses for sale on eBay. Lots of people buy a camera and never use the lens kitted with it; they purchased a camera which is an upgrade for them, and they already have good lenses they like. If you buy using PayPal, you have a double chance, through PayPal or through eBay of getting your money back if you have any kind of problem, but even with "just" eBay you have recourse if the person falsely advertised it as "A+" or "excellent" and it isn't.
After scanning a few web sites, I would imagine you might buy a 2nd 18-55 lens much cheaper than any repairs on old broken lens

Your Nikon 18-55 was once a lens, it is now a very fine paper weight.

Upgrade to the Nikon 18-140mm or the 18-300mm lenses.
Scrap the camera too and get a Canon mirrorless !

A repair could cost $300 or so. Not worth it.

Scrap it
Get a better lens
If it is a "kit lens" it is close to useless, so you might as well scrape it.

Be careful out there! Throw it in the garbage. I purchase Nikon (body only) and get a Nikkor OEM or good quality after-market glass for the camera.
Recommend this glass for your replacement⦠Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM for Nikon DSLRs with APS-C Sensors (image attached)

Depends. I would find out how much the repair is and then go from there.
I know there are a lot of folks who don't like the "kit" lens, I am not one of them.
I thought the one I had that came with my d90 was pretty good and have the enlargements to prove it.
I think for a lot of people it's a "status" thing. JMO.
