Does anyone make a protective case that is lightweight and fits easily inside a suitcase?I feel that my equipment would be a lot safer if it were concealed inside a suitcase. Using Pelican cases is like putting a "steal me" sign on it. Does anyone know if the low air pressure and severe cold of cargo hold will damage camera bodies or lenses?

How about a silicon cover? Lots of cameras are delivered by air, and I doubt they're all heated and pressurized. If this were a problem, it would be publicized.

Those things make a big DSLR body even larger.

I use Pearstone Onyx lens cases to pack my gear in my carry-on - Nikon D5200, Nikon D7200, my "smaller" lenses. My Nikon 80-400 and Tamron 150-600 get packed in the lens case that came with my 80-400. Had to order an extra for the Tamron. The Tamron is just a bit too long for this lens case, but it does zip up well enough to offer sufficient protection. You could spread your gear around in the checked bag. Would think this would work quite well as protection within checked baggage. The lens cases are padded. They come in various sizes. Purchased mine from B&H.

thats funny you say that!! i flew into seattle wash. airport last month, i am waiting for our bags to come out of the luggage carousel, when my pelican case came out , the porter literally runs over and grabs it an takes it and puts it behind a desk he is standing at.... i am about 20' from him,I went over to clam my case and asked him why he grab it, and his response was he has to pull off all bags with a lock on them, which is funny all 4 of our bags had locks on them and nobody grabbed them!!! it just felt odd!!!!

As others have said, there are cases that do a decent job of protection. But are you sure you want to check your luggage with the gear? It goes through multiple sets of hands and eyes, is not treated as "Fragile", and luggage has a tendency to get "lost". Unless there is a specific reason for it, you should seriously consider packing the gear in an appropriate size bag and taking it as a carry-on. [If carrying the bag onto the plane is difficult for you, ask for help with it.]

Don't want to check it but I am anticipating the future of "NO ELECTRONICS" on flights. I currently fit a lot of my equipment in my carry on.

The air pressure in today's airliners is the same as in the passenger cabin since both are in the same pressurized "tube". The temperature is similar, especially in cargo holds used to carry live animals. I don't recall ever getting an ice-cold bag at baggage claim. I'd love to have my wine chilled to 55 degrees F... never happened.

Fruit-of-the-Loom makes underwear and Wigwam makes socks, that's what I use to pack my gear in my suitcases and I've never had a problem in many trips!!!

Whoops! For a minute there, I thought you meant you put your photo gear into your underwear - while you were in there, too.

I often wrap camera gear in non-adhesive cushioned shelf liner. Example: Duck Brand Select Grip Easy Liner.
Cut to size. Wrap. Secure with a rubber band. Pack. Cost is about $5 for 10 sq ft. Wrap all your gear and have enough left over to line shelves.

For my d7200, do you recommend boxers or briefs?
