Original intent maybe.... but I buy and sell a bit of camera gear there... and I don't handcraft cameras.

Seems to me that what you are looking for is Craigslist. Like any other site where you buy or sell to strangers, check it out, do some research, then maybe try it. I have bought and sold quite a few things that way and it was pretty easy and I never had any problems.
