Oh, no! I just bought a super deluxe model! How can I enjoy the race without taking pictures of myself? I'm staying home!

They should be banned EVERYWHERE. They have turned out to be dangerous for those that happen to be close by. Several lawsuits for physical damage are being filed in courts across the country. The Smithsonian has made it's position know for years after those sticks damaged several vintage planes in Washington DC. They are a cancer that needs to be removed from the photographic environment. They have given photography a black eye, literally.

IMHO - maybe they should ban selfie stick users along with banning selfie sticks ;)
Hahahahahahahaha..Oh jeeeez.....!! Good one. I thought perhaps I was the only one with an absolute 'turn selfie stick users into haggis' grating intolerance..... Nyms

How about trained Eagles to take out CellPhones on sticks like attacking drones?

Selfie Sticks are tools of the Devil. They are evil.
I have owned a selfie stick for several years. I have never used it as a "selfie stick". I use it to elevate my camera above my head for a slight aerial view of whatever I am photographing. I also use it to support my 360 degree camera, as my hand ends up too big if I hold the camera directly. So banning selfie sticks would be a hindrance to me and would not make me happy; but not for the usual reasons. I guess I could use my monopod for these purposes, but it is much heavier than my selfie stick.

Maybe they don't want to appeal to self-absorbed morons. Just my opinion of course.

So criminal destruction of other people's property is funny?
The victims were just tourists enjoying their vacations.
People who use selfie sticks in grandstands, or places where they would obstruct others view are just obnoxious bores. But there has never been any shortage of those types. It's the person, not the stick, that is the problem. Take the selfie stick away, they will find other ways to annoy people around them.
