I am the Treasurer for our local Fire Department and took a half day to do payroll and find a Wells Fargo to process the direct deposit. After that was completed, I did some other errands before heading back to White Sands, hoping that the light would be better, the wind had quit, and I would get a decent sunset. I hiked into the dunes a way hoping to find that the overnight wind would have erased human footprints from the dunes. Footprints were erased, but other tracks were all over the dunes and under the bushes from night-time foraging. Anyone who says that the desert is devoid of life should have been with me to see these tracks. There was no wind, and no storm clouds to obscure the sunset. This time I was successful on all counts.

Wonderful set of photos, especially the sunset. Thanks for including us on your trip.

Beautiful photos - a nice set from this very interesting place. I like the tracks - I have been there many years ago, and in the heat of the day you would think nothing lives there - until you see all the tracks!

Just an excellent series of images, ALL. The sunsets are stunning and I, as well, love the tracks in the sand. That's a very special place, haven't been there in awhile.

Not that often that we UHH viewers get to view images of sand dunes. Very appealing series. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice shots. I cant put my finger on why but I just love #5. Maybe the lighting or the palm, I don't know but I love it. Gary

Thank you so much for looking and commenting, and I am glad one of them "grabbed" your fancy.

Coming from the world traveler that you are, I appreciate the compliment. The light at near sunset is magical.

Thank you for your compliment. I agree about people thinking the desert is a sterile place. Oh the tales the buses could tell about all that activity at night........

Thank you for looking and commenting. When I drove into the Park, most of the places to pull off and hike into the dunes were closed due to "maintenance work" and so I was limited to those places that were open and where you could park until the Park closed at night and they threw you out. It is a very unique place.
