If you are shooting in .jpg that might be true, since the camera does some editing for you. However, .jpg images do not generally fare as well during pp because they have been compressed, and have less information to work with. Makes it easier to make it look worse!

RAW, on the other hand, can always stand having adjustments made. And you can do more with them because of the amount of information!

Remember that editing programs have a variety of tools designed to produce a certain type of result. Using each tool requires a certain amount of skill to obtain the desired result. Sometimes just a small amount of change goes a long way. Being heavy-handed, overdoing a change, goes the other way! As a result, the images will look better or worse depending on how the person editing them uses the various tools available.
