I have Corel Paintshop Pro X7. I was editing some pictures and when I went from one picture to the next the program just locked up. I can't get it to do anything. I contacted Corel 36 hours ago and have not received a reply. Not very good customer service. Of course, I'm sure they want me to upgrade. Guess I will be looking for a different program for editing my pictures. Any suggestions. Thanking you in advance.

It won't work after restarting? Your PC that is. I switched to Affinity. Seems to be a good program, but it is different, More like PS I guess, but only 50$ and free ten day trial.

You might try reinstalling the program.

The X9 version can be had at $25. At least that's what Corel offered and I took. Twice. A lot cheaper than paying that each month when PSP will just about match anything other programs can do.

Did you try re-booting your PC? That often cures a problem like this.

When I did an upgrade I just did a download, so I don't have the disc. Also, I have tried rebooting my computer.

bobhoco,

The most likely problem is a corrupted data file between the first opened image file and the second. If the first file did not completely save and exit before opening the second, and you lost memory access, PSP could have suffered a memory corruption and will not be able to open again.

Try shutting down (power off, remove A/C plug for 60 sec.) and restarting the computer. If you get a screen notice that the computer is waiting for PSP to close use the force shutdown button at the bottom of the pop up window. You may loose the work you performed on the first image, but you will be able to use PSP.

The alternative is to uninstall PSP, then using the PSP tool to remove all remnants of the PSP installation from all locations in your Windows system. Re-install PSP. The PSP tool for removal is a free download from the PSP Support site.

Because you performed an upgrade online you may not have an original version copy of the install application, in that case you may be screwed. If you try using the uninstall program (Windows Control Panel) look for a choice to uninstall, repair, or Change the program. Select "Repair", Windows will try re-installing PSP using saved copies during the original upgrade installation.

One thing to keep in mind during your frustration; your version of PSP has been working fine for some time, therefore it should not be a PSP problem that caused your latest troubles, something new has occurred with the computer.

What was the memory condition at the time. Was it full. what other programs were running. Since it will not start, you have to re-install it. Then make sure it is the only program running......,I have 7 and 9, no problems with either one, but I always make sure when I run a memory hog program that there are no others (hogs) running at the same time..

Not much to add. Basic troubleshooting for this type of issue:

1_ Stop the locked program with task manager and try rerunning the program. (if this doesn't fix issue go to #2)

2) Reboot (doesn't fix issue go to 3)

3) If there are no errors and the lockup keep happening. Most likely a file got corrupted -- and best solution is to re-install software. If you don't have the disc -- what I would do is try the X9 free trial and if that fixes the problem pay the $50-$60 to upgrade to PSP X9.

4) To echo what someone else says from your post -- X7 has been working for you -- did you do anything recently to your system. Add another program or hardware? Is anything else failing or just PSP?

5) Good Luck!! If you ultimately can't solve your problem with PSP -- it might be some weird hardware/software incompatibility (rare -- but it happens sometime) -- then I'd maybe recommend moving over to Serif Affinity.

Just wondering, and hope I don't sound like a total idiot, but could they possibly do a system restore on their computer back to a day prior to the freeze up?

It's an option, but typically I don't like to use system restores unless absolutely necessary.

The easiest solution would be for the OP to do a re-install -- as from the limited data he gave us -- I'd wager it's 95%+ likely that a file was corrupted in some way.

The problem is that the OP doesn't have am install CD -- and also probably doesn't have the software installation package that he/she downloaded when he/she first bought the software download.

Trying PSP X9 (the free trial) is a good option -- as trying it doesn't cost you anything and if it works you just have to spend $50-$60 for it-- and you'll have the latest version of PSP.

Personally on digital downloads I always keep the installer package -- in case I do need to do a re-install. That's why I always loved the CD and DVD installation method.

Had a similar problem when an unrelated locked up my PC. Did a complete restore but lost PSP and After Shot Pro 3(download purchase). Since I had a disk for PSP8 I reinstalled it with now problems, not so with After Shot, no disk. Fortunately I had registered both products and kept copies of receipts. After contacting customer support with my problem I sent a copy of my online purchase and the walked me through the steps to recover After Shot Pro. Long story short everything is up and running thanks to the staff at Corel. They were very helpful and even called me back, live on the phone to make sure that I was completely satisfied!! Wonderful support. Recently upgraded to PSPx9 online with no hesitation!

You never want to do a system restore until you are ABSOLUTELY sure you have an operating system problem......that is a last step.

Completely understand that, having built several computers over the years tailored to my needs. Was just commenting on my experience with Corel's customer support team which was a very pleasant and helpful experience.
