I recently sold an item here, and the buyer wanted to pay using PayPal. Because I had never had anyone pay me that way I asked for a check, which he sent. However, since I may sell other stuff here, I need to know how to accept PayPal payments. What information do I have to send to the buyer? I believe my PayPal ID is my email address.

Very good info. I wondered how they pulled it off. I've advertised many things on Craigslist and had many people inquire about the item and offer more than the asking price. But I just ignored them or sent them a note telling them to get lost and that I will only meet in person and take cash only.

That's not a scam that can work. Once payment is confirmed as received on the seller's end, if the buyer tries to retract the sale it just triggers an investigation. The worst case, PayPal may place a hold on the funds until the matter is resolved, and the payment is just not automatically cancelled on the buyer's say-so.

But there are other scams that sellers should be aware of. Unfortunately, the scam you describe isn't one of them.

When I use Craig's list, I specify local only and also ask for cash and use the local police station as my transfer point.
