This may get moved to another section, but many of us rely on computers for our photography, either Windows or Mac - let's not debate that issue!

I've just upgraded a couple of machines to the new Windows 10 Creators edition and am experiencing network connection issues that I'm still working to resolve, primarily with a hardwired connection which may be device driver related.

Now I'm a Windows user, and I like Windows 10, so this isn't a rant, just a heads up cautionary notice. I have four Windows machines currently on my local network, the two that have been upgraded are having problems, the two that were on the previous major release are fine and all the other network devices are behaving normally. I have found workarounds for my main machine, but the Gigabit Ethernet is not playing nice so far. Wireless internal adapter is another problem on an older machine. An old USB wireless adapter seems to work.

So, heads up, be cautious boys and girls before taking the plunge to the Windows 10 creators update.

When I find a solution I'll let you know.

Please do. I took my main desktop that way, but not yet my notebook. FWIW, I've experienced no issues on the desktop. <knock, knock>

Here to. I have a wondering internet connection at times. Window 10 of course it's updated it's self an has a dozen times. Can't connect at times may happen 2 or 3 times I have WiFi and if I right click the WiFi sign by the clock, then click trouble shoot it usually fixes the problem. Keeps
saying adapter problem. Sometimes I have to reboot to get the WiFi adapter to work. It's a widows thing for sure. I have a small google note book not a sign of a problem. Windows Defender is on LSD doing weird stuff. Once pop up illegal windows, uninstall windows and some legal jargon. Turn defender off rebooted no other problem and defender still off. I have my own anti virus. One thing has helped Before I shut down the computer I turn off the WiFi and do not turn WiFi back on till every every thing has loaded. I keep widows defender turn off as somethings wrong with it. That all I can say It's not fixed but at one point had to do a command prompt fix hard drive because all I got was a black screen. If you figure it out let me know. I'll do the same to you.

Thanks - just wanted to check against my machines (so I'll know what to watch for...). Was it an automatic update, or are you testing an early release?

It is the current official release, but I used the Windows 10 upgrade software download to initiate. My old test machine seemed fine intially, so I then did the next one. After rebooting both have network connection / driver problems. One wired, the other both wifi and wired. The network itself checks out OK, it seems to be the nic drivers.

I can make them both work, but not as they should. No other issues so far.

If you own a copy of some type Antivirus run it only you do not need to run Windows Defender only use one or the other.

Thank you. I have solved one issue by reinstalling the gigabit NIC driver and resetting the network. I don't understand why the problem occurred since no network settings were changed, no physical connections altered. However, I'm back up and running on my main machine now with gigabit Ethernet, I just need to address the remaining issues on my test machine, which is old and still giving me device driver / nic error messages.

So far, the new Windows 10 update (1703 - major) seems fine, but I still have an issue or two to swat. I'm not saying there are major problems at all, I was just surprised by an inexplicable glitch or two.

Thanks

The difference may be that I bought a Win10 Pro disc and did a fresh install after formatting my hard drive, I had to add no drivers at all, Windows did it all. Then I joined the Windows Insiders Program and got Creator a couple of weeks before it became an update.

A good suggestion, but I don't think that was my problem. In fact both the machines that had problems were clean installs to Windows 10, from downloads creating local media (USB), one 64bit, one 32bit - the old test machine.

So I've solved the problems on one machine by reinstalling the nic drivers. It also seems that some applications such as realplayer need updates for the Windows 10 Creator's update. Nothing that can't be dealt with so far, but some things may break and need updates.

Well I spent two days with a black screen searching for answers to the same problems. I ended up doing a command prompt restore C drive. and it worked like a champ. Now yesterday )3 days later) I shut down my computer only to have it say your computer will shut down after install updates. I did not want this to happen. And sorry for the french the next time I started the computer it finished up dating tell me to reboot on completion. SURE AS SHIT
Well after loading got the your internet adopter is not working right and could not connect. I did a trouble shoot problem and it worked but I am right back were it started a month ago. It is window and I believe window defender has much to do with it also. This is BS.

I final comment. I've retired the old 2005 laptop, too old and not worth messing with the nic drivers which are an identified issue. I can make it work with a USB nic, but it simply isn't worth the effort. Reclying the hard drive, and the rest is destined for the big electronic recycling bin in the sky. This is not a Windows 10 problem, just the lifecycle of technology.
