Hello all!
I'm new to the world of having a DSLR, and so excited to finally have one. I'm an accountant by day, and a wife and mother of two young teens by night. My family and I enjoy camping, hiking and kayaking, and I've always been the one lagging behind try to capture that awesome photo. After a battle against Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma last year, and officially being in remission for 6 months, I decided to do something for me. So I finally bought myself the long awaited DSLR. I was hoping to find a photography class to learn all about the dials and settings, but my work schedule wouldn't line up with the one class I found at our local college. But... I do have the internet filled with forums, how-to sites and Pinterest!!
I'm attaching some of my recent photos. The rose was shot with my new camera, and the other two were taken with my iPhone 7.
Looking forward to getting to know you, and learning from your suggestions.

Welcome aboard! I'm new too. I'm also in Florida and that reminds me of Spruce Creek you're paddling in.

Welcome to UHH Suzanne, glad you joined us. Many helpful and knowledgeable members reside here. All you have to do is ask the question. Some good first posts, keep them coming. What DSLR did you finally end up buying?
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

Suzanne, welcome. Your rose shot indicates you are well on your way. Congratulations on licking your cancer. A word of caution about college photo courses. I took one, thinking it would help me learn my camera. Wrong! It was all about "photography as art", and emphasized technical perfection and creating photos that created a mood or statement. Tough for someone who was just learning to use her camera. I got NO information along those lines. (I'm not saying I didn't get anything at all out of it. Nor am I saying all college courses are like that. You would need to check with the prof about exactly what they plan to teach.) I recommend Rocky Mountain School of Photography 1 week workshop to learn your camera. Its emphasis is learning to use your camera in manual under various conditions. Kind of pricey, but excellent if you can spare the week and $$. Good luck to you. Charlie
Welcome! Looking forward to your posts and pictures. Happy shooting!
