All the images I keep get pp because I export them to a shared family site

The "lossiness" of JPEG is troublesome. So, although I still take pictures in JPEG, I always save them in PNG, a "lossless" format. Then since PNG files are, to say the least, rather large I resave in JPEG with more or less compression depending on the situation in order to have small enough files to put on the internet or on a DVD to play on the TV. But I always print from the more detailed PNG. Klugy, I know. But it works for me.

This is the perfect situation to use Lightroom to solve. Best of luck.

For film, I do a small proof scan. That is usually fine. If I want to print, I take a proper photo of the negative in RAW and process as needed. For small prints I may just use the small scan. For digital, a similar process. I generally don't post process unless I want to print. I find that, for me, I like what I get from film without extra work. With digital I am tempted to do more work.

My current method is raw and post process about 1 in 7, and discard the rest.
Not all my photos! Some (lucky I guess) are perfect right out of the camera, some need touching up, and a whole lot are discarded! But that's me, you may find you like touching up all your photos more! I think a lot of it is personal.
I always shoot raw and jpeg small so I can preview the jpegs to select the keepers and weed out the dregs. I always bracket in 5s, but with raw this is often overkill, but I like to have the choices. anything I keep gets saved as an unchanged raw plus a tiff of the opened and modified raw. Just about everything I post or mail is done as a jpeg except those headed to a stock site.
